I gotta call time on this while we await adjudication from senior officials as to when the C, becomes the U.........medals and titles are at stake here lads........this has to be taken seriously.
I guess I'll start posting here as it was intended for the group PD build instead of clogging Julians thread. Ive settled on my system for attaching the head to the body and also integrated it into various support rings and the equator ring. Ill be able to adjust the friction fit of the two rings with a nylon nut on top of the centre tube which can be accessed from the top removable hatch. It will be a friction fit as opposed to using bearings, just enough to be able to rotate the head with out it being able to move by its self.
I make no guarantees these will work with any solution besides the ones I kludge together. If they help someone, I'm happy. Maybe they might be a good launching off point. In any event, print on paper and test things out first!
Crude labels, but it gets the point across - green holes will line everybody up, and fit a Plastruct tube:
Red holes are for the screws to mount this piece to the lazy susan. The blue holes will allow you to swivel over the screwholes and tighten everything down, once it's assembled, since it's easiest to have the screws face outward (so any extra screw thread lengths don't interfere with the lazy susan's movement)
Finally a couple of my kits have come
Having the Saturn V parts has allowed me to take measurements and design an accurate cad model, More on this later :love
From here I can unroll the object, print it out and place it over the Saturn V part to use as a cut template. In these photos I just taped the template together to see how the fit worked out. Pretty spot on from my eye :thumbsup
