Pressure pot conversion - does it also do vacuum?

Hey guys,

so I just bought the popular standard choice of paint pressure pot:

I assume that it is identical to the ones sold under various brand names, including the harbor freight variant.
Now, my question is: can anyone confirm that this is also suitable for applying a vacuum? I've found some mentions, but I just want to be sure. Anything one has to look out for?

Thanks!

It's possible, but it would not be a good option even if it did work since you really need a window on a vacuum chamber. There's no other way to tell when to burp the valve to prevent overflow if your resin/rubber bucket is too small, and so you can see when the material you are evacuating air from finishes foaming and collapses.

I have essentially the same pot, but I have a 1/2" clear lexan cover with a 1/8" deep x 1/2" wide groove running around the underside. In the groove I poured and made a silicon gasket to seal the lid to the pot. In the middle of the cover are three holes: fitting for vac pump hose, fitting for pressure gauge, and open hole for burping. I use a random piece of silicone to cover the hole when building vac.

My vacuum chamber is a pressure pot. I replaced the lid with a clear lid with a gasket made from silicone sheet. . Been using it for years without issue.

Agreed with all comments above. The easiest way to convert this for dual purpose is to get Perspex lid, seal and gauges and have the two lids inter change.
