Prepping Fibreglass?

Well...a bit of a question for yourselves..
I have a fibreglass helmet that im prepping to prime/sand etc. Ive washed it 3 times now with warm/hot soapy water and scrubbed but its still sticky to the touch and i dont want to risk priming it just yet. Has anyone had this happen before or is it just unusual? Its a big enough helmet so alot of scrubbing involved!

If it was cast in a silicone mold, the outer layer will remain tacky until it is thoroughly washed with acetone and paper towels. Primer and paint will also not stick to the surface until washed with acetone.

It worked a treat, the primer stuck to it! At least now i can see all the flaws in the casting and get to work sanding and filling (now to find a good filler!). Was reason enough to buy a dremel!:rolleyes

Bondo body filler is your friend....just make sure to wear a respirator?
