Premiere Props - Hollywood Extravaganza X

Honestly, I think I was most surprised about someone putting in a bid for $1750 on a lost tape of the Jonny Carson show. I walked away before I could see the final price, but that just seems like something random and small audience who happened to be there to bid. I mean thats good, its just random.

Never seen bidding like this: $5,000...now $5,200...$5,400...NO, wait...$5,200...OK...$5,400...DAMN!...$5,200 AGAIN...$5,300...

Please, someone tell me what the hand signal is for canceling your bid live.

Of course, it stalled for a few minutes and then climbed in big leaps to the final figure.

SU don't like to take items that have been on Your Props or shown off on forums.

Art, sorry to go off track again, but just wanted to clear up the facts. No need for anyone to reply to this - Dan/Mark if you would like to discuss offline, no problem at all - always want to work with you guys.

Anyway, the comment above was a bit inaccurate. What we don't want to take on consignment are items that were just recently for sale on ebay, message boards, or elsewhere. In many cases they are "dragged through the mud" with price decreases over and over, and then it doesn't make business sense for us to take something that has been overexposed. For items just shown somewhere or listed on yourprops, we take them every day - no problem.

However, the bigger issue, is that we don't want to take on consignment items that were just recently purchased on ebay that have no authentication at all except for an ebay seller's word. We turn down consignments every day, and in reality, that is our right. Please understand that consigning an item to us means that Jeff and I have to put our name on a COA that goes with the item. No other auction house does that, that I'm aware of. That means 10 years down the road if the customer has a problem and needs their money back, they come to me, not the consignor who could be long gone. So if the piece is not something I think is authentic enough to purchase for my own collection, I can't take it. This is the reason we are in business, because of reputation, and there is no 15-20% commission that would make up for having to pay a customer back $10K several years down the road if there is an issue.

So the pieces that we turn down may very well be perfectly fine, they just don't have enough authentication for me to be willing to put my personal money on it, or allow my customers to do the same.

I hope this helps. Again please don't reply to this, let's keep this thread on track regarding "that other auction". :)

I was told in April either (i) that If it was a recent ebay/craigs list/ 'exposed' purchase...e.g. you get a cool item on eBay and want to flip it later, and/or listed for sale on forums that they are less inclined to take an item for their auction. I disagree with this analysis since it implies that your whole customer base is aware of every single transaction that ever occurs online.

or (ii) exactly what you wrote above about items continually reduced in price and overexposed by the consignor and then wanting to consign to the SU auction.

Whether or not Desi meant (i), (ii) or both I do not know.

Everything I wanted to consign had been shown off but not listed by myself for sale on the MPF or anywhere else at that time, so having my consignments rejected I felt that (i) was the appropriate understanding.

I know they have a shirt for sale in this auction that was show cased on here. So did they take it cause of where the shirt was bought at 1st? Since it was from an outstanding company that i have no clue of who or what one. idk, I dont see an issue with flipping things at times. I just looked at the Profiles in History animation Auction coming up. They have a few pieces i bid on and lost..now they are back up on the block with $100+ buck more as the starting price. WTF is up with that tho? no they are not cell either, i know cell slightly change a bit n almost look alike.

I think its just a misunderstanding more than anything. As always I have found Desi and Jeff to be amongst the best of there field in props. Feelings get hurt in props more than anything else I've ever had to deal with and bottom line is its there business...and especially if there name is on it I agree 100%. With them its not about lawyers...its about the right thing. With alot of auctions we deal with this personal responsibility simply isnt there.

So yeah, back to the topic at hand, I feel the speculators were not there bidding up stuff yesterday but as usual the really cool authentic items went for better money than the cheap stuff....most of the time.

Anybody know the deal on the jack sparrow pistol that went for nearly $4000

Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of Black Pearl Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) Stunt Pistol

I think the big joke is all the stuff that people travelled to sell onscreen, most of it ended up not selling.

Then I heard about this....A false nail worn by Lady Gaga and couldnt work out why these werent selling.....well the cuff made $1500 but that still seems more interesting than a fake nail.

Dont get me wrong, I think Desi and the whole screenused team are great. They have always been very helpful.

Anyway, I think your right about their sales being down and things going cheaper cause of the Screenused auction and money issues around. I wasnt impressed with this auction lots.

Hey, did anyone else that bid, but didn't win, still get a $100 dollar charge on their card?

It hasn't cleared yet, so I can't dispute it till then. I swear I've bidded at previous premiere props
auctions and never got a charge when I lost. I hope its just like they were testing to see if my card worked.
Is there a fee for bidding? I thought I'd post if this is abnormal.

That might just be an automatic 'hold' placed on the card to authorize you to bid in the auction. It'll probably go away in a day or two if it's not actually processed as a purchase (which it shouldn't be if you didn't buy anything).

Can't say I've ever _seen_ that happen with an auction house before, but knowing PP it wouldn't surprise me...

That's probably it. I'll post back if it never clears and the results of that.

Well the Bane mask is a replica so I hope the person who paid that ridiculous amount is aware of that.........It was never used in the movie.

I called Premiere props about a background prop gun from good bad and ugly,1965 movie the last auction and asked about the chain of ownership since its all most 40 years, he told me I am not going to tell you that.Need some type proof. what a joke.
