Before I am verbally attacked, I have waited many years since I first saw Predator when I was about 7, so we are talking almost twenty years of waiting for a "proper" new predator film that I could enjoy at the cinema. THe clips look awesome although I am trying to avoid watching them (other than the main trailer and Nolan decloaking, SWEET!). Plus seeing an 18 rated film didn't mess me up, apart from the healthy obsession of the Lair! So..........
having just gone to book tickets at Cineworld I'm a little disappointed with the BBFC 15 certificate/rating. Don't get me wrong the lower limit opens Predator to a wider audience but with P1 and P2 being 18's I was hoping for a balls out movie unlike the disappointing other 2.
BBFC defintions for a "15"
Violence
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification."
Where as an "18" is
In line with the consistent findings of the BBFC’s public consultations and The Human Rights Act 1998, at ‘18’ the BBFC’s guideline concerns will not normally override the principle that adults should be free to choose their own entertainment. Exceptions are most likely in the following areas:
So perhaps they will do an "18" un-cut dvd release? Thoughts anyone?
And just to get the ball rolling and illicit a bit more thought in potential responses....
"Wider Auidence therefore more money for the Studio"
"Flogging the franchise for everything it's worth"
"Selling out"
Have already been mentioned, let's avoid them.
