Predator Reboot

Hey it could be some new life that it does need

the franchise has been all over the place  .

Well at least it's not JJ Abrams . . . .

(sigh)

I sure hope they don't **** it up TOO badly . . . .

As much as I would love to see another pred film this is not the way to go. They screwed up RoboCop and they will screw this up as well. Tell me one remake/reboot that has been better than the original? There is no need to reboot this. There has been enough pred films to just keep it going. What's so wrong with making predator 3?? And another thing, what else happens with reboots? Redesign. You know its going to happen.

Mixed feelings on this one.  Shane polished the 87 movies script and Silver did the producing for it.  I dunno.  I guess it all depends on what weird revision they come up with that "changes it for the better."  Could go either way but obviously won't be as a good as the original.

Taken from my Facebook wall - Caution, I use dirty words -

I'll tell you what's on my mind, Facebook, and I will make you eat it... eat it all. I'm gonna shove it down your throat like a huge, barbed bear cock.

So, my Feed has been filled up with news about a Predator 'reboot.' What do I think about it? Well, if I were to tell you, I'd lose everyone of my friends on my friends list. But, I'm going to tell you anyway. Here's what I think about it. I think it's pretty damn ****** that most of you out there have already jumped on the bandwagon with "OH BOY!! MORE PREDATOR STUFF!!!" Are... are you that depraved and uninspired that you'd willingly take a shot right to the childhood balls, than to stand up and say, "No, Hollywood, I will not pay for your ******** anymore!!" Because you ******* disappoint me more than the piece of **** job I have. No, really... what the ****, man? You're willing to sacrifice everything that was the first movie just so you can see the "Predator" on screen again? First off, let me explain what "Predator" was... it was a stupid, testosterone driven film with a twist thrown in at the end. That's it. It's not that complicated, and I think the problem is, is that most directors that have tackled the character have over thought it, and tried to represent it as something it's not. It's not a thinker, folks; no, it's BOOM BOOM, BANG, ****, I'M DEAD - and an Alien. So, how is Shane Blacks version going to differ from the original? Is Hawkins going to live; is he going to be the badass who unintentionally slays the titular character? IS HE GOING TO MAKE A CAMEO? Are they going to "enhance" it with CGI? Yup. They're gonna over-do that ****. They might as well just CGI a bunch of dicks floating across the screen, because that's what it's going to be - and in 3D it'd be like the CGI dicks would be slapping the viewers right in the face. That's what you deserve. Because ******* video games sell!! I don't ******* care because there is absolutely no ******* reason to re-boot Predator. There is no conceivable REASON as to why it should be re-done. Oh, wait.. money. You remake this movie, and Hollywood is dead to me - honestly, though, really not a whole lot keeping me interested. BUT... this will be the defining moment when Hollywood has finally crossed the line, and I hope it gets AIDs. Is ther NO creativity left there? Why not do a time period piece with the Predator. Holy ****, the possibilities are endless - Japans Feudal Era, WWI, WWII, ANYTHING!! ****. Stop it, Hollywood, stop it or I'm going to take a huge **** all over you.

Also, if you don't like my opinion about a re-boot - let's here WHY you think a re-boot is plausible, relevant, and worthwhile. No, really. I want to hear valid points other than "Oh boy, I'll have new toys to buy!!"

You're treading on my dreams and childhood here, so tread carefully.

Rob ..you know i love ya bro , but im curious..who is this mysterious entity called Hollywood? I live and work here ..i hear soooo many outside opinions of an industry that is far from a singular unit. If you are angry about something and feel the need to voice your opinion, i would suggest that you try and focus that anger in the correct direction and not be as generic as many here are being. In other words ..aim it at the studio..but honestly that wouldnt be fair as well. There are many people that work at 20th century Fox that will have absolutely nothing to do with this movie. They will be busy with other elements of their company and doent deserve the ire of a rabid fan. So why do i think a re-boot is plausible? Sometimes i find them much more entertaining then a sequel. Sequels HAVE to be based on already established canon. This is where they usually mess up. If they change an aspect or element of that canon then it becomes inconstant with the previous or original films. So here we have yet only an announcement of a director with a re-boot of a franchise. Not even a script yet and everyone is jumping the gun and making assumptions. At least Shane Black is a good and proven director. People forget that Robert Rodriguez didnt direct Predators at all. Nimrod Antal did. RR was the producer. This is how convoluted the fanbase can get sometime by making assumptions. And really..why is this a surprise? Did anybody here really think there would never be another predator movie again? and that it wouldnt get the remake treatment sooner or later? So i'll leave you with this. here are some movies that were re-makes. you may like some of them ..you may not . They were considered successes

Scarface
Cape Fear
The Birdcage
Dawn of the Dead
The Thing ( YES  ..the 1982 John Carpenter "The Thing" was indeed a remake the a 1951 movie of the same name)
Bram Strokers Dracula
Oceans 11 ( up for debate ..but a  success. I personally liked it)
Heaven can Wait
Planet of the Apes ..( pick one)
King Kong ( pick one)
Batman Begins
Scent of a Woman
Little Shop of Horrors
The Fly
Nosferatu
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Casino Royale ( a complete reboot of the bond franchise)
the Departed
True Grit
The Thomas Crown Affair
Ransom
Insomnia
3:10 to Yuma
True Lies ( yes ..the james Cameron/ Arnie movie was a remake of a French movie called La Totale)
Dirty Rotten Scoundrals
The Ring
The Magnificent 7 ( an American remake of Kurasawa's Seven Samurai )

So here's what i suggest. Relax. See the movie when it comes out. Determine then and only then if you like it. then do what we do these days ..post about it on facebook

Most of those good remake haven't been made in the last 15 years. It seems that the ones that have been coming out recently have been rushed and slapped together just to make money. Feel like scarface and movies like the thing had more effort put into them. Just don't like them trying to shove CGI and 3d down everyone's throats

Sadly as with most franchises they are not based on creating a good product it's just something that will allow them to make money.  The internet backlash and disgruntled fan-base mean nothing to them.  it's all about money and marketing.  the fact that most everything predator related has been washed down and watered down to appease a larger fan base is all they want. to make money.. it's called the movie business

just look around you have little kids wearing predator costumes...cosplayers, cookie jars and action figures, statues, etc etc......are all part of the same marketing engine of a pop culture icon.   even the lair has been watered down where as once it was a hardcore group of badass costumers and "niche" board to be a more inclusive part of the hobby culture.  lets face it again it's all about the money

so get ready for the whole new set of action toys, wanna be posers (there are some already..lol) and predator popcorn machines.

How many of you know Directors, producers, effects teams? Do you honestly believe we band together and collectivly say lets make a ****** movie and rape the public on toys. Sometimes a movie works ..sometimes they dont. I friend of mine produced the film Solaris. in theory it had a winning combination. George Clooney in a thinker sci-fi movie. It was also a remake of a french film. They didnt go into it thinking it would flop. On the other hand movies become surprise hits. Predator was one of them. Hell, half the SWS Effects team didnt even want to work on it ..most were still on Monster Squad at the time and the rest wanted to be on the upcoming Pumpkinhead. Compile that with the fact that some of the same artists worked on it when it was 'Hunter" ( so i guess, Predator itself was a remake of an unfinished film) Nobody thought it would hit like it did .. It was the "lightening in the Bottle" that only happens everyonce in a blue moon.

As far as internet backlash and fandom ..well if "Hollywood" listened to everyone that complained. Michael Keaton wouldnt have been Batman, Heath Ledger woulnt have been the Joker. and Robert Downey wouldnt have been iron man

I thought The Wolfman (2010) was a great remake, in my opinion.  Rick Baker did an excellent job on the creature and Del Toro and Hopkins really sold their parts.

As for the "reboot".  For me, it stems off of "Predators".  That movie seemed like a "remake" disguised as a "stand alone film" or "true sequel".  It was like the writers took the script of "Predator" and placed it next to a clean piece of paper and copied the movie, altering a few points here and there.  There are a few aspects I do like, which if you tweak the Predators a bit, that's about it.  The movie could've been bigger, but it seemed to have live up to what I thought it would be.  The same thing happened to AVP.  It could've been bigger, in my opinion, but they "PG 13'd" it too much.

But, to a lot of people, they didn't watch the original and arguably aren't hardcore fans, like we are.

As for this movie, it is early and the initial shock does create a stir, considering what I just posted.  But, a cameo from Arnie, to me, would hurt the Dutch character from the first movie.  I would like to see something along the lines of an extension of the original two.  Bring Steve Wang and the SWS team to create the Predator.  I think Ian Whyte or Steele would be a great predator....someone TALL!  For us "hardcore fans", it's touchie I guess.

Here's something I wrote on FB that I thought would make a unique, yet true to the original two, movie:

In the age of constant surveillance and war in the middle east, have the Predator go there in the same reasons he did in the original--it grows hot, intense actions/violence, etc.... If you want to connect the first two, leave Arnie out and create a new character, Peter Key's nephew. Play off of that. Key's was work-obsessed with the creature and his nephew overheard his uncle talk about it.  Key's "unusual death" effected  him and pushes him into the military, etc...

Well that actually makes me happy, I'm not a big fan of rebooting the classics but a continuation of the franchise is quite pleasing. This franchise needs a bit of freshing up after the adding the AVPs .

I'm down with the Shane Black reboot. He's written some of my favorite movies... Lethal Weapon, Last Boyscout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which he also directed) and his sense of storytelling's really exciting IMO.

It's easy to be cynical about the "terrible state of Hollywood" today but let's not forget we've seen some really kickass movies lately. Don't gloss over the good ones just because the ones that stick out in your mind are the turds.
