Power Ranger Helmet Painting Advice?

I got a used Red Ranger helmet that's overdue for a new paint job and I've decided to take the plunge. However, I've never done anything like this and I'm not sure where to begin. Will spray paint do, or should I spring for a paint sprayer (my dad already has a compressor)? Either way, what paint should I use, and what colors are recommended?

I know this is an old post but im here to say, yes, spray paint will work just fine my halo armor was entirely spray painted. Some plastic, some foam pieces. The go to method for cosplay is spray paint cans. Air sprayers are better but if youre just painting a helmet you won't need it. I didnt even need it for an entire suit of armor lol
