Power Ranger Helmet Painting Advice?

I got a used Red Ranger helmet that's overdue for a new paint job and I've decided to take the plunge. However, I've never done anything like this and I'm not sure where to begin. Will spray paint do, or should I spring for a paint sprayer (my dad already has a compressor)? Either way, what paint should I use, and what colors are recommended?

Posting a picture of the interior because I'm not 100% certain what this is even made out of.

I know this is an old post but im here to say, yes, spray paint will work just fine :) my halo armor was entirely spray painted. Some plastic, some foam pieces. The go to method for cosplay is spray paint cans. Air sprayers are better but if youre just painting a helmet you won't need it. I didnt even need it for an entire suit of armor lol
