POTA ANSA Astronaut Suit

The director says on the commentary that he is just in love with the suits from Planet of the Apes, so he decided to rip it right off ("homage") and tells a funny story about talking the seamstress through the details.

If you look closely, you can tell the jacket sits a little lower in the waist on Bruce than it does on Chuck, and the sleeves are more full on Bruce's... the one my friend made me is more like Bruce's due to her just adapting an Eisenhower jacket pattern and eyeballing me from afar as it was done as a complete surprise. :)

She didn't save the pattern guys, sorry.

I love it so much, I bought Bruce Campbell's Alien Apocalypse DVD:

Are those white leather Boxing boots you are wearing Larry (i am assuming that is you in the first picture)

Did Heston wear similar for the Movie? if not what a fantastic peice of improvisation on your part, so i can pretty much say then the boots would be a sinch to get hold of.

just the pants and Jacket to source then................. :cry

Oh, I wish it was; that's the actor Bruce Campbell, from the movie. Now that I've got my jacket up to an acceptable look, I really should have some pictures taken outside the ruins of the Sutro Baths here in San Francisco; it has a similar look to Zuma beach, or where ever it was down in southern California they filmed the end bit of Planet of the Apes.

I'm going to have to do a few more sit-ups and hit the Rogaine to look anything like Bruce Campbell, though. :)

Thats Bruce Campbell :eek how stupid do i feel

that will teach me to look closer at pictures next time :redface

yep get those pictures taken and hosted

Perhaps if you squint a bit and have a drop or two Bruce and I will look a bit similar!

Actually, Its an easy mistake to make.
Larry is a handsome guy too.:love
(I owed you that one Larry). :)

Hopefully, I too will soon be joining the Larry/Bruce/Taylor club. :cool

BTW, It appears that the jacket is cut to fit a particular persons build and measurements. Look at the diff between Taylor and Dodge and Landon.
The one Dodge wears is cut more like Bruce's.

I did get my ANSA Astronaut suit from Shadowdale, but the jacket was not right. I sent it back, but the jacket was still not right. To be fair, Shadowdale said I could send it back for alterations, but quite frankly it was becoming a pain in the a$$ because of how long it would take. I would have to hound them to get it done. As it is, it's a good dispaly piece, but as a costume, the jacket is ill fitting and inaccurate. The pants and undergarment, however, are spot on. I think the jacket, at least, needs to be fitted in person.

I hadn't looked at this thread in a long time, those replicas packs are great!

This thread reminds me of the Icarus from C&S Hobbies. Does anyone know how they are in person? I haven't seen it yet, a friend saw the site and asked me to order one for him.
Anyway, anyone know if it's any good?

Slightly off topic, I know. Sorry!

Here's a pic I took at Bob Burns'...

Any chance of some photos GB?

Plus what sort of material did they end up using?

Sorry to hear about the jackets fitting problems.

I'm not certain what material they used, you would have to ask Shadowdale. I does look accurate though in terms of material. The originals were made of satin backed cotton which is apparently used in making wedding dresses. Will try to get pictures up by the weekend.

Credit where credit is due, that looks very, very good.

Where did the problems with the jacket lie? The neck, waist, sleeve length?

You are right that for a tailored item like this it is very difficult when there would be no personal fittings.

WOW!
That looks very good.

Where is the problem?
How about a pic with it on so we can see what you mean.

Well, first of all when I got it the second time, although the pants fit, the jacket was too tight in the waist. Since then I've lost weight, so now the pants are too big in the waist and now the jacket fits in the waist. Also the arms are way too long which they were supposed to correct. Furthermor, the angle should be greater on the front zip, with more "tail" to the belt and snap. Lastly, the snaps should be white as seen in the stills where Heston is wearing the suit.
