^ I have to stress that I did not lift a single finger to make this suit. ALL recognition should go to MCL34N so you'd have to ask him about the fabrication of the lenses. Whatever he did I'm glad he did it
Have you replaced the lenses on your Turn off the Dark suit? because they look smaller than i remember....Not sure if my first attempt at this post worked correctly. (Sorry, I'm new.) Apologies if it's a duplicate post...
Hi all,
Relatively new lurker here. Congrats to everyone on so many unique and awesome Spidey suits. Here's something that I haven't seen on the board yet. This is one of the suits from the Broadway production, Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark. Save your comments about the show itself, their version of the suit is pretty cool and unique. Consider that it's designed to be seen from at least 20 feet away. Most impressive it that it stands up to perhaps the most rigorous use that any Spidey suit will ever see - 8 performances a week involving substantial dancing, martial arts and aerial acrobatics. The entire front of the hood is built with a formed mesh and painted which is then sewn to the back of the hood. This allows an unobstructed field of vision through the mesh. It's why my head appears to have an odd shape in profile (it's not very noticeable when onstage). Puma Future Cat sneakers are attached to the suit with velcro and garment clips. This version of the suit zippers across the back of the shoulders, but there are various versions based on the specific actor and their performance requirements. The suit pictured has had some repairs because it's been used onstage. The costume was designed by the late Eiko Ishioka, a prominent Opera designer.

There are some good shots of it in this video.Have you replaced the lenses on your Turn off the Dark suit? because they look smaller than i remember....
But, the real point is, if someone were to make a Dye Sub file of the Turn off the Dark suit, i would probably buy a file in the future and get it printed (after i get my other three files printed).
Can you post some pictures of your Turn off the Dark suit? I'd love to see some actual GOOD pictures of it! (really curious to what the back looks like)
Actually, that suit is REALLY awesome looking! Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that he actually has the zipper going down his back instead of the U shape that was used in the movies? (I actually prefer the straight back zipper better though)There are some good shots of it in this video.

Thought i'd share a couple of phtos taken with my iPhone, not the best but you get the idea. Thanks to MCL34N for making this suit, it truly is a work of art!

That is until you try to get in and out of one by yourself. :lol Straight back zippers are a nightmare.Actually, that suit is REALLY awesome looking! Yeah that is true lol. For my suit, I will probably use a straight back zipper, but I will have someone to help me zip and unzip it! haha! That is until you try to get in and out of one by yourself. :lol Straight back zippers are a nightmare.
The suit in the video zips across the back of the shoulders, not down the back.

Yes, that’s me in the Turn Off The Dark suit. I also have a Raimi-style suit (my avatar pic). And yup, I was a part of the production.Wallcrawler248: “…so the pic in your profile is you in the turn off the dark suit? If so you must be in the production some how.”

Those are original lenses. In fact, they are not really lenses. The entire face mask is a molded mesh material. There is virtually unobstructed vision. All the color on the face is painted with the exception of the frames which are a thin piece of felt glued on top. So there really isn’t anything to replace – only repainting. But this suit hasn’t been altered at all. It’s got some interesting detailing, but it’s not as detailed as the movie suits. Like I said before, it was designed to be seen on stage from 40 feet away and be very practical. It has to stand up to lots of abuse 8 performances a week. For some reason I don’t have any pics of the back of the suit, but I’ll try and take some soon. Here is a crazy large close-up to show some of the detail in the print (sorry for the size!). There are a few more front pics in my profile.
The Turn Off The Dark suit has had several revisions in construction (but not appearance) as the production has replaced suits. There are also differences in the suits depending on what a specific actor is required to do in them. So some have fully removable hoods, some have zippers up the back of the hoods, some have zippers down the middle of the back, etc. Most of the suits have zippers across the back of the shoulders. The wardrobe department probably has about 20 suits in rotation at any given time.
Cheers,
Kevin

I am also hoping to preform a bit in Atlanta. Not for money or anything... just for fun and picturesHey WicKeD, What do you mean you "get to work in it on a daily basis"? Are you performing as Spidey? If not, you should. You look great in the suit. I've been trying to reach Brad (Spidey4Fun) for a while now. I'm hoping to get my hands on one of his suits.
Cheers!
Kevin
