Possible 'Close Enough' Indiana Jones pants...?

Yeah, a gearhead over at COW suggested this style from LL Bean:
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/st...4=502921&shop_method=pp&feat=502921-sub2&np=Y
He says the dark khaki was still too light so he Rit-Dyed them darker and the pictures he has posted of him wearing the finished product looks just as good as any Indy pants.
The important detail here is the pocket flaps in the back - that's what really signifies a good choice for Indy wear.

I wore a pair of those for Halloween 2008. Comfortable, and they definitely look good enough for all but the discerning Indiana Jones fanatic.

And yes, even the "dark" khaki is still too light for Indy pants. You'll have to dye them darker, but be advised--for whatever reason (possibly because of the treatment that makes them "stain resistant") the material doesn't dye easily, so be sure to use at least twice as much dye as you normally would. IIRC, I used two bottles (liquid) of Rit "Cocoa Brown" and they turned out pretty well. Also, I've found drying them immediately after you dye them (before you wash them the first time after dyeing) seems to help the material retain the dye.

The drying is a very good way to seal the dye into the fabric.
for dyeing the best results for me have been the following.

I use either dust dye that needs to be used with boiling water for 30 minutes, sturing often .after which u add salt and let boil for 10-15 more minutes, pull out the pants and let them air dry in a dark place ( since the pants are right out of the boiling pot this takes 3-5 minutes. them i stick them in the dryer for one cycle. lets them rest over night and wash the next day.

Cons:
- pants need to be preshruk ( and even at times they do shrink ) or u can go for one pants size bigger.
-make sure that the fabric is pure organic or as close to organic fiber, the syntetic mixs dont survive this.

With the regular liq dyes i let the water reach boiling point and turn off the oven or remove the pot . let cool for 3-5 mins after bubbles stop. place the garmet in and cover pot. let cool down for 20 30 mintues add salt and turn on the heat till starts to boil. and let sit till the next day. with the none boil method i have noticed that the color does fade if i dont let it boil.

but heat and salt are the best methods to retain and seal color in organic fabrics.

I love my Wested pants for their durability and fit. I went a size larger in the waist and had them fitted, which left them baggy as I think fits the Indy look. I did have them hemmed a little to short to achieve the baggy look at the ankles and will need to order another pair as their is not enough material to get them rehemmed.

Cheers

Sebastian

The Wested pants are great, the only ones with the right color I think. They taper too much in the legs and Wested only leaves a tiny seam allowance, so that can't really be fixed, but other than that they're awesome.

I just bought these online:
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/st...oreId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&from=SR&feat=sr
Color and design look pretty good - I need something that will be comfortable to wear in Orlando when I go down in March.
If Todd's pants are at a good price point and extremely SA then I will pick those up to wear for Halloween, but for now I need something that is reasonably accurate, comfortabe and in time for my Florida trip.

Good call, and on sale! :lol As I recall, the taupe color is closer to SA than the dark khaki of the other pants you linked.

I will post some pics when I get them - natural light, indoors w/flash and one w/no flash.
Unfortunately, I don't have the shirt or any other gear yet to model it with.

Got these in the mail. They are REALLY great for Indy pants! They have the look and feel, a little loose just like they should be and though the color could be a tad darker, I realize Indy's pants color changes from film to film so it's not a big deal.
The pants do have a crease running down the legs so I will have to double check the screen used pants and see if I have to have these pressed out.
I will post some pics soon.
