Porter's Magnum from Payback

I've been interested in this revolver for awhile now. Anyone know what kind it was and whether or not those grips were custom?

From the trivia section of "Payback" on the Internet Movie Database: Porter uses a Smith & Wesson Model 27 357 Magnum with a four-inch barrel and custom wood grips.

I hope it helps. And I am willing to bet that if you look around, some grip maker, makes those grips. I like "Payback", but I like the Lee Marvin version more, he used a four inch, S&W Model 29, .44 magnum in that movie.

Lee Marvin? He died nearly 10 years before they made the movie...

Lee Marvin was in the version that was made 22 years before "Payback", it's called "Point Blank". Check it out if you get the chance, it is a good movie, but very different than "Payback", while using the same story.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the 27 has been out of production since the 90s which kinda stinks. Maybe I can find an airsoft version somewhere.

Then I gotta hunt for the grips.

These look close, but I dont think theyre perfect.

You guys know there is a new cut of the film about to be released called "Payback: Straight Up" and it's the directors original vision of the film before Mel Gibson took over and reshot half of it? The Kris Kristofferson character is not in the film, nor is his son, or that plotline, and the endning is reported to be incredibly different. Plus I think Porter brutally beats up his wife.

As for replica's, good luck finding one that's a springer. I have found plenty of Colt springers, but finding a decent Smith & Wesson revolver in airsoft seems to be a challenge. They do sell a kit from Korea that seems nice. It's the 44 mag version though.

KIT GUN

Being that it's a kit, you should be able to stick any grips you'd like on there.

thanks for that link man. It looks like the right length, too. I guess the only difference is the cylinder size?

Both the .357, and .44 magnum of that model are built on the same frame, so the only difference should be the diameter of the cylinder holes, and barrel. Infact there is a discussion on the "Payback" page of the IMDb about the caliber of the revolver in the movie. Personally I think it was a .357 from the scene where the revolver is unloaded. To me the rounds look like .357s, not .44 magnums.

Doesn't Porter call it a 44 when he sees it?? I can't remember. I'll have to dig out the DVD and watch it.

While I think the production gun was probably a 357 too, I think they wanted it to be a 44 in the movie.

Maybe these?

In fact that looks almost like the right gun to me, right length anyway. Just wrong finish.

Though I was looking at the movie and the grips still have a screw-hole and some little ornament. And the bottom finger step jutts out more than the other two.

I'm beginning to think these grips are gonna be tough to find.
