Portal 2 (Mark spoilers, please)

Started playing through this tonight. So far, so good. VERY good.

I haven't come across anything particularly difficult yet, but there have been a few times where I had to step back and think about a particular puzzle. I saw a review that stated that you "spend more time figuring out what to do, and less time doing it". So far, that seems to be the case. There haven't been any of the timed tests or super-quick-reflex tests that bugged me so much in the first game. A fair bit of trial and error, though.

Very much in the same style of the first one so far. Seems to be a bit more of a story this time around, but I'm not far enough into it to say how it's all going to turn out. The dialog is awesome, of course.

If you liked the first one, this one is a MUST BUY, no doubt. I can see it sucking up a good chunk of the rest of my week after work each night.

Played about 15 minutes of single player last night and loved it. My girlfriend and I tried the first few parts of the multiplayer as well. She never played the first one, but she loves it too. The AI in multiplayer is going to be a lot of fun, just like in the first, I think.

I beat the game last night, I loved it. I won't mention anything about the story... But it was a good one. (Better than what most modern movies can come up with these days.)

You finished it last night? Holy cow... I guess it's safe to assume you don't have any kids. :lol How long did it take you?

This is a very unique situation for me. I have a brand new game the day it's released (and on my Mac no less). I know simultaneous releases (i.e. PC, Mac, console, etc.) are more common now but since I just can't afford to game much these days, I honestly can't remember the last time I could say that. I was the guy that played Portal when it they released it free with Steam for the Mac about a year ago... years after it was originally released.

I'm only up through something like "chapter 3"... I get a lot of humor out of the A.I. that mocks you constantly.

The only thing that kind of bugs me is just the play environment. I have a hard time wrapping my head around where all of these rooms and elevators are supposedly existing. You're constantly going down but then you're back up somewhere? I'm missing something I think.

Regardless, the gameplay is great. The whole concept of the game keeps me hooked.

This is on my must have list! I heard Best Buy has it on sale for $35, plus is giving a $10 gift card with purchase. Hope to get it this weekend!

I'm a good distance into the game now and loving it. U have yet to beat it, but there may be some mid-game slight spoilers in my post, just as a warning.

The dialogue has been great, even better than last time. The extra characters really add to the experience. And Cave Johnson is just awesome. Right now I'm in the spheres section and stuck at the moment, but I'll figure out this blue goo stuff sooner or later.

@dualedge: Yeah, I'm only 17. It took me about ten hours to beat... Probably the longest any FPS campaign has ever taken me.

Finished it about an hour ago. Loved it, loved the new characters and the voice actor selection. I was a might disappointed that the sections with Cave Johnson didn't last longer, that's some awesome dialogue. I was also impressed by how much they were able to expand on the original concept while not changing the portal gun at all.

Now to do co-op.

:lol Cool... that makes me feel a little better :p

I've had a grand total of two hours play time so far so I'm not very far along myself still. I'll probably be playing off and on for the next couple of weeks as time and the family allow.

I'm really enjoying some of the new twists. It's like DuneMuaDib said - they haven't changed the portal gun but it's awesome how you can use it to move gameplay elements like light bridges around. It adds a very unique twist while leaving the gun alone per se.

This is definitely a good game for older guys like me. I suck at playing FPS games against kids these days... the reflexes just aren't what they used to be I guess and getting tea-bagged by a twelve year old seriously just ain't fun :lol

There are only three words I can say:
Epic Moon Shot

Seriously, I haven't played it and only watched the walkthrough on YouTube, but DAMN! I wanna play it.

I haven't tried the co-op part yet. I know this is a massively stupid question but I'll ask anyway... can you play the co-op using bots as your partner or does it have to be another live player?

I really appreciate the fact that if you bought the PS3 version, you automatically get a free pc/mac version of the game as a download from Steam.

I'm about halfway, and my girlfriend almost 3/4 in the singleplayer, both getting ready for the co-op

Got it on release day, played it at 6am, beat it at 8pm. If anyone wants to co-op with me, my Steam name is jeyl1984.

Few things. Ratman. While he wasn't in the game in a way that I had hoped he would be, Valve did do something with him that I'm very happy with. If you want to find out, try searching for open spots in the test areas and *look around a little*. But if you want the details, well....

Basically, if you find any of his dens during the actual testing areas, get as close as you can to one of his paintings/scribblings on the wall. When you do, you will actually be able to hear him. He just goes on and on in the most unintelligible way that it's almost disturbing.

The Ratman was my favorite part of the first Portal game, and while he may be gone, this brought something new and creepy to Portal 2 that made the first game so appealing to me in the first place. I LOVED the Ratman.

Also, everyone sit back and take a little bow as we mourn the exclusion of the awesome in concept Pneumatic Diversity Vent. I think the #1 reason this puzzle element wasn't put into the game was that a lot of things it does in the video can be done by pretty much any other means with the Portal device. Still, it's hard to not want to play with this component in the game since having fun with physics plays a big part Portal's appeal. All Valve really needed to do was create elements that would benefit the vent, like turrets that wouldn't get knocked down, or areas of the test chamber that needed to be demolished. Man, demolishing test chambers. Why wouldn't that be awesome and fun?

And don't forget...

Seriously, don't click if you haven't beaten the game.

Chell is Caroline's Daughter!

And again, jeyl1984. Let's beat GLaDOS!

Did anyone catch the Flux Capacitor refrence? There's a segment where you're passing through some offices and see a banner that reads "bring your daughter to work day". There's a bunch of science-fair style projects and one of them appears to be an aperture-styled flux capacitor powered by a potato.

That's not the only thing that's at the science fair. Check out the name on the potato battery project that ended up sprouting into the ceiling.

Chell is Caroline's Daughter!

I don't buy it

unless Chell is a clone, or was in suspended animation for some time before Portal 1, or was adopted. The timeline doesn't work otherwise.
