Pop open pistol - anyone ever seen one of these? Space Giants

As Rylo is busy on the rocket whistle - I noticed something the other day while I was skimming through episodes gathering screencaps for him. There were three episodes where a monster who eats sound prevents Miko from summoning Maguma, Gam or Silvar with his whistle. The creature would gobble the SOS calls right from the air.

See! And you didn't believe me.
Anyhow, to get around this - Miko was given a pistol my the old Wizard that he could use in the meantime to summon our heroes when needed.

This nifty little spring loaded gun was only used for the three episodes were they battled the sound eating monster and I'm curious if this gun is something off the shelf? Anyone out there seen it before? Or have any recommendations as to what it was made from.

Its very similar to the ones I sued to see in comic books trying to get you to deliver papers or something in return for credit, or something. I dunno, I was too busy creasing corners and folding edges to read the comics themselves.

It might be a potatoe gun but it's not the kind found in the old comic books. I have one of those. Unless they made more than one version. Off the bat it reminds me of a lighter more than anything else.

after a quick paint job and removal (i guess) of the rubber knife I should have a nice replica in hand.

is that a real knife blade? that would be awesome. slice your potatoes and shoot you cat with them at the same time.

No. The knife is only rubber and I think it's going to have to come off when I start working on it - so no funtime potato peeling for me..

From what I've been able to tell the handle is the same and this is the same make and model. It's easier to see the details while the images are in motion. They only show the gun in close up while it's being popped open -

In the screen caps it looks like the knife blade is still there to me, just painted the same color as the body.

You're right! It's hard for me to tell because I've never seen one of these pieces in person - I thought the little hole on the back is where they removed the knife blade stem. Thanks for catching that!
