Part of collecting involves licensed as well as fan made products.

I purchased a Factory X Knight's Tale helmet. Nice. Rare. Matches Factory X Knight's Tale sword I also posses.

Advertised as "This item is new in the original box."

Receive the item in a beat up poorly constructed box, with parts wrapped in recent bubble wrap. Stand is scratched at base and column and item clearly displayed for a number of years.

It's a nice helmet, in good shape except for dust, I guess from being in the box. I'm very happy with the actual item, but as a collector I have lost value because it is clearly NOT new in original box. I would have not purchased the item if described as loose and as is, despite being a good value and ultimately a goof helmet.

So what to do. Pay to send back a misrepresented product? Put it back in the non-original packaging and let it go down in value more?

Bottom line: No one should have to put up with this type of deceit, if for no other reason he could probably received a good offer over time from somebody who enjoyed the film and really didn't care about collecting, packaging, and value and both parties would have been happy vs indignantly refusal to admit misrepresenting the item.

So BUYER BEWARE. It's not only the fine print that can get you, but the Bold Face part is figurative & literal.

Simple answer is if the products not as advertised and you aren't willing to accept the difference to the recieved item and the one advertised then get a refund.

The complex answer is to pay return postage for a misrepresented product. Your out time, money, and patience.

The simple answer is for prop folks not to misrepresent, but I appreciate your in depth analysis

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind.

1) Are you a collector or a reseller? If you are a collector, I'd say display the piece and write the box off as a loss. If you are a reseller, then yes, I would be mighty peeved at the condition of the box.

2) Was the item a "steal at this price" sort of thing? If so, we can tell why it was such a steal. If not, then most definitely I would send it back and ask for a refund. Losing out on the shipping cost is a small ordeal. If you paypaled the seller, you will get it all back anyway and you are out, as you said, time.

The box may have been new to the seller. He may not have taken good care of the box and considered it new because it was still the original box. As far as the scratches on the stand go, again, to me personally, I want people to look at my pieces, not at the stand it sits on, the boxes it has come in or the glass case it sits in. With your level of unhappiness with the overall condition, I would contact the seller and return it. You will constantly look at that piece and be unhappy.
