So! I'm a new kid on the block... And I dived head first into this project without even looking at the depth of the cliff!
I found a lot of the PM Tricorder modification threads here on RPF, and decided that by god, i wanted to do one. So, I bought one! Then I bought a second one! (Because they're both sealed in their boxes)
Then I got bold. I got a hold of one of GMProps' electronics kits (Thank you very much, by the way. Wonderful!) and decided to get to work!
Unfortunately, i don't have any build pictures(because i'm an idiot), but i can pretty well recall what I did.
While I waited for GMProps' kit to come in the mail, I decided it was a good time to do the body mods for the electronics. Simple, right?
Wrong.
I figured out real quick that without the kit, i didn't have too much of a guideline to go by. But, with a couple of useful vids, and the mod guide from Mr. Mros, I managed until the electronics arrived. Then the fun began!
Oh, i was pretty dang excited when I started hooking everything up and seeing all the lights and sounds work like they were supposed to!
Then I got cocky.
I decided to get a little fancy with the placement of things, and also was in the process of building a new battery door (I suck at Dremel cutoff wheels). Next thing I know, snap! A wire comes loose.
I think I cried!
Had to tear the body down and free the viewscreen board (since I needed to replace that wire at the source), and realized that I suck at modification!
But, the story has a happy ending! (so far!) Successfully repaired the viewscreen board, and have since reset the boards in their proper spot.
Added some support for the battery door, and rigged a little support system for the battery pack, which is a (tri) lithium pack. (Yay puns!)
I'll put up some pics if i'm able to sometime soon.
