Plasti-kote vs. Killer Chrome, some questions

In the near future I will be trying to paint a Count Dooku resin saber. I would much rather have a chrome like look to the hilt over a shiny silver or grey look. I've seen Plasti-Kotes Chrome bumper spray talked about a lot and I guess people have gotten good results with it, though I have never seen pictures of the results. I've also seen the Killer Chrome website and the results it produces look great but itÂ’s also 10x the price.

My assumption is that Killer Chrome is the better product by a good margin. In addition to which on is better though I would like to now how well the cured finish handles being taped over when masking off an area for different color paint.

I would hate to get a nice chrome finish then have it pulled off by the tape.

Thanks.

If Plastikote's Chrome Bumper spray is the same as the Plastikote metallics they sell in the UK then they look amazing, but have to be the most frustrating and impractical paints ever.

Literally months to dry thoroughly.

Finish is fragile even then, even low-tack masking tape will damage the finish, as will polish, water, any other spray paint, any lacquer, even looking at the finish too hard will damage it.

Looks fantastic though.

Killer Chrome and the other paint finishes they produce look much harder wearing and as they seem oriented towards the auto-industry you'd hope the finish would be harder wearing.

Well I guess Plasti-Kote is out of the picture.

Howdy,
gotta say Alclad 2 is nice but really doesnt compare to Killer Chrome in my opinion. You're talking a custom auto finish to model paint...big difference. I had a plastic blister pack from some disposable dust masks, so sprayed the back(inside) with flat black primer, then misted killer chrome in a aerosol can on the top. I'll let the results speak for them selves. by the way no prep work, just a test.....they claim 95% crhome reflectivity....
Best,
Will

:confused
:eek

Frack me, that's probably the best rattle can chrome finish I've seen yet, and on the cheap, too (YES. good for me) ... I wonder how it would have turned out with a back coat of gloss black instead of the flat finish primer, or if that would even make a discernable difference in the end result?

Will,

How durable is that chrome finish without a clear coat on it? Can you handle the piece once it is cured? Does it rub off in your hands or get dull with handling? The can of chrome itself is reasonable, but when you add up the base coats and the clear coats, you end up with a fairly big expenditure.
