Planning a FO4 Minutemen General Outfit, looking for advice

Hello everyone, I am planning to fabricate a Fallout 4 Minutemen General costume. I feel like the most difficult part is deciding what to buy brand new and weather and what to make from scratch.

So far I'm looking at these Items

Hat - Repro Tricorn Hat
Trench Coat - Red Nap Navy Blue Shop coat
Chest Plate - Most likely will be EVA
Neck Scarf - Black bow tie
Undershirt - White Tuxedo Shirt
Belt - ?
Gloves - Leather Biking/riding gloves with large/long gauntlets
Shoulder Belt - Generic amazon belt
Pants - Pair of Paratrooper Brown Cargo Pants and weather them with a needle brush/cat brush
Boots - Pair of Reinassance faire boots
Pip Boy

If anyone has any advice on how to go about this project, what to look into, materials to use, etc. Please let me know, as all advice is welcome. Once work clears up I plan to start this project and document it on this thread hopefully starting the first week of July.

Welcome to the RPF! Digging the idea. I'm on the hunt for a hat too, as I'm making minuteman T-45. POTC sounds great thanks. For the coat, I would try a black Outback brand duster. You'll have to remove the shoulder cape, and likely him the bottom, but it's a great base. about 4 years ago I bought a brown one off of ebay for about 50 usd, for a desert ranger suit. it's held up great at cons, and I use it as my daily rain coat, so it'll wear well. for the blueing, just paint with thinned blue acrylic. finally add some buttons. for the shirt, it looks like a tux shirt with black buttons, and should be readily available. for the under armor, belt and bandoleer, I would suggest EVA foam. for how to do this, I would recommend reading SKS prop's dragon age inquisitor build, it has virtually everything you'll need to know. From my ranger, I can say that the lack of mobility of a pepakura chest under a coat is a bear, and heavy as sin. from a cursory glance I'd say that the in game model is modified set of combat armor, so that's probably a good start.

good luck, and looking foreword to seeing the build... and to get the inevitable over with... "General, I've gotten word of another settlement that needs your help. I'll mark it on your map."

Thanks for the advice! For the outside coat, im deciding making one from scratch from a pattern or a butcher frock:

and modifying it. I'm also looking forward to the "General,..." comments!

Never would have guessed you would have to dodge rain in Key West haha

I know, right! It's mainly used at university in Dallas though, which last year was saturated...at least it looks cool! haha! Sounds like a solid plan on the coat, using a pattern will probably work well. I would recommend oiling it though, as the in game model appears to have had this done to it. For the weapon what's your current plan? If you intend on a laser musket, I have some screen grabs I could supply. For the Pip Boy, if you plan on fabricating one yourself I would advise scaling it to your smart phone display, so as to use the official app. Although the official Pip Boy is great, there are certainly alternatives, 3d printing only one of them. The only problem I cam foresee is the huge amount of finishing on a piece as complex as that. Good luck,

For the pip boy, I may just buy a kit off etsy or a collectors one off ebay.

For the weapon I may just make a laser musket or laser rifle from scratch. Maybe a ncr service rifle cause I'm such an NCR fanboi.

For the boots I've been looking at Payless, walmart, or amazon for womens winter boots in a size 12 (I am a mens size 11) but haven't been having much luck. Several online LARP and renessance Stores sell very similar boots, but were talking boots costing $60-$100.

Alright, after four months I'm back with a little update. As of now, I have most of the soft ware at home (Seen below). For the coat, I'm going with a red nap Navy Blue shop/frock/butchers coat. The boots are a little hard to do, since the texture in FO4 leaves much to the imagination. The right boot has what looks like a leather cuff, while the left boot looks like fur. I plan to start the Combat Armor codpiece and chest piece this weekend out of EVA Foam, but I am studying up for school and working on an NCR Ranger helmet with whatever free time I have at work, but My goal is to have all of this done by the end of January. Also considering making a laser musket completely from scratch, but I'm not even going to touch that project any time soon. Also-also bought a Navy blue flag and plan to stencil the minutemen logo onto. That will be a cute project. Til next time!
