Pirates Ye Be Warned

Well...

New in the sense that I don't think anyone's done this yet, as simple as it is. And I suppose its more set dressing than prop, but who cares.

I thought this would be a "One-Day-Wonder", but alas I didn't quite finish. I started by replacing three planks on the fence in my yard, and took the old weather planks to the saw. The weathered fence has just the right tone of faded grey I needed.

I still need to futz with some of the letters, and I need to work the splintered edges quite a bit more (the hardest part). Then its just a matter of adding all the bird**** then I'm done! :D

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Just watched all three "Pirates" movies. Even better than I remembered. Looks great!

Re: New prop from Pirates One

I'm no expert
but , I believe the words a carved into the wood then painted

Looks really cool though

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Great work!

Not to burst your bubble, you may have been the first to do this on the RPF, but I'm pretty sure I've seen someone do one of these before. It's been on my "to-do" list for far too long ... so you beat me. :lol

Now git out thine drill bits!

Ya know, my first instinct on this prop was that the original was carved out of foam. If they did in fact carve out the letters, makes more sense that they used foam versus wood since it'd be easier to carve.

Not to burst your bubble Rob but perhaps the first to display. I have to dig mine out and post some pics!

Excellent job mate! Get a dremel router tool and start engraving!!!!!! Use black (ebony) varnish to add some weathering to the wood. Also gouge out some cracks and the like in the wood to give it a used look.

Also you can try this technique but it takes a few weeks to achieve desired look. Soak the wood in salt / briney water and allow to dry in the sun. This will start the weathering process nicely.

oops! I forgot to add! Use polymer clay (white) to achieve the guano effect from seagulls! I still need to do that part!!!

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Perhaps the "bubble" could be your Death Star plexiglass ball prior to painting?:lol

Still yours looks better than mine! YEAH YEAH! It is all about whose looks better and by the way it is yours!!!!

Forgot to say - I'd love to see what you came up with! Post away!

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Looks really well done! If you want to rough the edges up just a bit, get a heavy wire drill bit brush and just knick the edges a little.

I have no idea where this is from:

I like the "Avast" button. Should have a "Curses" one as well.
Laffo.

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Made some alterations...

Modified the broken edges a bit. I sacrifced screen-accuracy for a more natural look.

Massaged some of the letters a tad.

Added some bird****.

See first post...

;)

Made some progress today... Massaged the letters a tad more, added more guano. Pics later!

Re: New prop from Pirates One

Wow, interesting prop. Would have never thought to make this prop but now I'm considering it. Nice job!
