Pirates of the Caribbean Prop addition

I may be the first to do this... Haven't seen it yet, at any rate...

In Dead Man's Chest, the Davey Jones key is on a large metal ring when Wil nabs it. The MR prop comes with a leather lanyard, as seen in the fight over the key on the water wheel...

I sort of like the ring better, so I made one in about an hour for less than a dollar.

Wow, even the paint job looks the same. Is the ring heat bent plastic?

Very impressive.

Thanks Darrin.

Thanks for noticing the details of the paint job. Was a quickie, but works ok....

I'll ost more tomorrow about how I whipped this up.

Looks perfect, been meaning to have a go at this myself, but wasnt sure if it was worth it, I can see now it definately is. Thanks for showing me the light :lol

You could cut a slice of PVC pipe of the correct diameter. I wait with everyone else to see how you did it though.

That's exactly it. And sorry for the wait...

Actually, this pipe was true styrene, opposed to Poly Vinyl Chloride (did I get that right)?... It was a large T-junction about 4.5" in diameter.

$0.99.

I cut off a slice (longest part of the whole job), took the Dremel to it to get the proper beat up and natural look, and then sprayed it black.

True black was too rich, so I found another rattle can of Plasti-Kote Bumper Color in Bumper Black. I'd remebered this color being a less than true back, and sure enough it was the perfect charcoal gray in color. It matched the MR key perfectly. I swiped on some copper/rust, added a bit of turquoise to pick up on what MR did with the key, and Bob's Your Uncle....

And that's exactly where I got it -- goood ole' HD.

If you can't find it, let me know. Maybe I can cut off a slice for you.

By the way, I HAD to do this as I copped the leather lanyard for my Sparrow compass. ;)
