Photo and Video Review of Original Screen-used Biker/Scout Trooper helmet

Hi all,

Just to say that my latest Video Review is completed and ready to watch - this time I was fortunate to get my hands on an original Biker/Scout Trooper helmet from Return of the Jedi thanks to Stephen Lane and The Propstore of London, its new owner (having previously been owned by Steve Sansweet of Lucasfilm).

To accompany the video review there's also a photo review as well - so hopefully everything anyone would want to see of this particular character.

Star Wars Helmets.com review of Original Biker/Scout Trooper Helmet

The video's taken me quite a while to do but hopefully going forward I've got myself in a position where I can so these reviews much quicker - so long as I can keep getting access to the original stuff of course. So if anyone needs any video/editing/production work doing I'm available for hire! ;)

Hope you like it.

Cheers

Wow Jez another amazing article and review, I love what you are doing for the hobby.

Just one point, without a screen match how do you know for sure it is screenused?

Another great video Jez.
I hope you can keep getting hold of originals.
I have to agree with Joe as well, what you're doing for the hobby is great.
Big :thumbsup from me.

Thanks guys :$

Joe - I understand its listed as part of the documentation that backs up its provenance. Not sure if thats from Lucasfilm though or elsewhere (as you know it was previously Steve Sansweet)

Wow, nice one Jez. What you are doing really does give people a real insight into real props which most of us can only dream of seeing.....

Thanks.

Amazing, thank you Jez! What an incredible piece of Star Wars history :love

(and thanks to Stephen as well).

Oh nice! I've held that in my hands! I still kick myself for taking so few pics. I do have some decent shots of the inside of it though. Mind if I post them here?

The funny thing is that Steve literally just tossed it to us, like it was no big thing. No gloves, no special care... I think I babied my MLC scout helmet more than he did the original!

Usually with reviews of original helmets the owners prefer me to not post internal shots since there's a concern that it wont be long before a replica gets passed off as an original (and given a fairly recent lightsaber auctions it looks like its already happened).

I certainly dont have a problem with you posting them here - and since internal shots of this particular helmet have been "out there" for quite a while now - I think its probably a case of "the horse has bolted"

Cheers

I knew there was sensitivity to that, which is why I asked. They've been on my flickr page for a while, so like you said... the horse has long since bolted ;)

Chin cup:

Interior shot, showing the hard hat liner. I'd love to see that model identified! You can see the strip that joins the sides, and that there's a little oval of plastic at the top of the head. No idea really what that was for. Maybe just extra reinforcement?

And for a funny sense of perspective... Webchief holding the helmet, as we quite literally tossed it back and forth to each other for pics.

The images are clickable to get to the bigger ones. I didn't post the exterior shots here since you've already seen the outside.

Thanks so much for sharing, Jez (and stormtrooper guy)! This is one of my favorite helmet from the original trilogy:) Boy was i disapointed when the DP standard helmet arrived at my door about 12 years ago, ha ha. Don Post had used pictures of an original helmet in the ad.

Well I guess its like a lot of these kinds of situations - maybe he got an offer he couldnt refuse!

Thanks for the kind comments guys

Cheers

Jez

agreed -although its sad that "new finds" are happening much less frequently than before. Now it seems theyre measured in years..... :(

You wrote that
One of the unusual things about the Scout Trooper helmet is the fact that it has a functioning hinge mechanism built into faceplate, which allows the front to tilt up to quite a considerable angle. Though this was not used in the movies (since presumably Lucas didn't want the actors faces to be seen) - it is nonetheless a really nice touch and quite a unique feature of this imperial helmet.

This was actually used in the film. In a scene which was cut a rebel soldier disguises himself in the armor of the scout trooper who Han and gang captured outside the imperial bunker. However, you can see this guy in two shots in the completed film. When Han and the rebels first enter the imperial bunker, if you look behind them out the door you can see a scout trooper standing with his back to them. The second scene is after they are all captured and led out of the bunker. When the camera pans around showing all of the imperial forces outside the bunker, among the captured rebels is the disguised rebel commando in the scout trooper uniform without his helmet on.

Here's a webpage about it with a couple images:starwarz
