Done / Completed Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard- preorders closed

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Will the new brass clips still be compatible with the JJ belt clip hardware?

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Thanks for the update, I'm willing to wait for any accuracy improvements to this saber.
Hopefully, this V2 is going to be ultimate version with no need for V3 :)

They should still fit, @parfaitelumiere; can likely tell better as he has a prototype built of the clip and maybe can test it.

The goal has always been to make try and let folks still use the JJ clips, but after the new sizing it's going to be close and you might be interested in just updating the full clip. From what I've seen so far the prices of this newly designed clip will be very very competitive.

Thatstheplan!

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

I designed it as accurate as possible, I am not sure it can be compatible with actual JJ clip.
The width is matching my own clip design, much more accurate, it's narrower, I have to check if it can go in a jj clip or not, but it can still be possible.

handmade V1 of the brass clasp:

It has been modified since this first attempt.

Gotcha!

And for photos, once the prototypes are in you guys will get an eye full, I promise!

Here are some teasers since we're close to easter and pastel is all the rage.

I want to hop on this very much, but timing might not work. Can't wait to see those prototype pictures!

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Got in touch with the machinist today. We put the model to bed finally and made the last minor modification to the detailing.

So they are working on tooling already.

This will mean the production date will slip by about 4 weeks from my original estimate due to the longer time for the file details.

Not bad though We're looking at finished machining in the start of April. Painted in May, installed in June.

Very similar to V1... prototypes in .... "2 WEEKS"

I've got some surprises for those in on the run, but I'm not going to tell anyone about em until it's too late, and the lists are closed.

I still promise time for people to sign up after the prototypes are in hand, but only about 3 days.

Is there a new ETA for the prototype models?

Here is a quick drawing on the saber clip displayed on my 4,5" kylo belt buckle.
The final design is close, some details are missing on the drawing.
The saber brass clip is based from original hero lightsaber.

The cnetral T-track will have accurate shape and cuttings.
The brass clasp is wrong version on the photo, the final dimensions will be different.

As we finally decided to match the hero version, the clasp won't work to remove the saber pulling up, only pulling down.
I checked the movie and the action scenes mostly show kylo pulling down (fury scene with computers is good example)
I will assist you to set the clasp function and hardness once you will get them.
If you want a softer saber pulling, or to pull it up, just a bit of file grinding, and some bending.

I am actually working on full prototype, but still waiting for the bolts to come to finalize it.

Regarding JJ clip compatibility, I get a JJ clip, but sold it, took the picture just to put on sale and didn't think about taking measurments, but from what I can remember, the JJ is a bit larger at first view, I think the t track is probably ½" wide.
I think the clasp can fit inside adding some tensile on it, or bendingon other axis, like on original prop, I will show how to proceed.
I hope Derrek has a JJ clip to make attempt.

Regarding the saber itself, seems most fo my observations are or will be applied by Derrek, adding more and more accuracy on it.

another great scene is him walking in the woods " and the dark..." in that first trailer we got.

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

It's not much but they have some of the first steps of the machining on a prototype done. Hard to tell now what is belongs to but they are aluminium :D

I can make out some of the parts and where they belong...

They have told me they will be finishing the prototypes this week and shipping next week. If they hold this time line we're doing well.

Wicked cool, thanks for sharing this pic!

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Excellent news! The Machining quality looks VERY good, even if it's barely started.

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

In addition, I would like to put my support behind steel quillions. I think the ability to be able to actually heat stain the quillions is worth an extra charge. This may not be the general consensus for those that are sending their hilts to be professionally painted, but I for one would love to be able to hit them with a torch. It would make the whole process that much easier. Steel quillions can still be painted, for those that don't plan on torching them.

I am okay with aluminum though. I would just personally prefer steel.

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Creating blue hue by torching steel quillions would look amazing :)
(hope ArtisanFX can do this even for an extra cost-> just some hopeful thoughts)
Plus, steel is heavier and stronger than aluminum, so I would also prefer steel quillions
