Done / Completed Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard- preorders closed

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

Hey guys!
Dino from Sanotized here!

Since I'm talking to Derrek a lot regarding the CNC V2, here is another option I want to offer to you (providing interest and fair machining costs):
I will offer a steel quillon upgrade option for those who decide to get their saber finished by me within the run.
With steel an realistic gradient of burned steel is achieved with actual heat.
I will open an nonbinding interest list soon, to determine the number of steel quillons needed to get a quote from my local machinist.
Of course I need to make sure that they are perfectly fitting into the CNC saber. Otherwise it would just look stupid. To me, as the default painter of this limited run, it's very important to make things right. Our goal is to bring the most badass saber to life! ;-)

Cheers
Dino

Dino, I am interested in discussing that option and painting with you. Any chance you will be willing to allow people who are finishing it themselves to purchase steel quillions from you if Dday decides to go with aluminum? I'm a big DIY guy.

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

That's an interesting offer,
If Derek uses steel quillions for all hilts, it would simplify things for everyone including AFX & DIYers
but, at the end, it's completely up to him to make that decision :)

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

I would like to offer the steel version to those who engage my finishing service as a premium upgrade.
However I might offer them openly, but this will be likely when the run is over and all sabers are painted.
I hope you don't get me wrong here. But my clients will get priority here by offering real heat coloring on the quillons. :)

great we had same ideas!
I had other ideas, but because of cost of materials and machining, the final choice has been made without these options.
finally, After checking design of saber and especially searches on belt clip, things turned different and I get designing the clasp and belt clip aha.

If it's not possible to get steel quillons, your option looks good, even for those who want to finish saber themselves.

Hi parfaitelumiere. I'd be interested to hear what your other ideas were. Could you please tell us more?

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

My other idea was a copper alloy body, with full hand polish, then nickel plating, after what it gets heat treatment with oil, and a final finish by hand.
But copper alloy or bronze is very expensive and more difficult to machine, hand polish can be very tricky and without way to supervise it it can destroy the work then the plating and heat finish are not sure to give a good result, just ideas.

Re: Phoenix Props V2 CNC - Kylo Ren Crossguard

And the clip of course, I first wanted to see how to scale down the JJ clip, after I knew about the real belt height was 4,5" and not 5".
Then I saw it was really different from original, not only scale, but design, for me it was impossible to get it accurate whatever I modify on it.
So I decided to make one myself, and after discussion, the idea finally was to add it on the cnc lightsaber.

Sano Really Great idea with the steel Quillon. I chose the option finished by you and installed by Markus. I am interested by this additional option.

Sano cool. I am looking forward to it.
You should post this option on Facebook to get more people, who requested your finish, to support this cool idea.

Martin Sabers I might send a mail to all on the list who get a finish by me.
But still need to wait for the machinist :)

Dday is including a cool extra something with the saber. I'll wager 100 Midichlorians that it's a custom stand. Any takers ? Monopoly Midichlorians only, you can't have my real ones...

Here is the clip prototype, with my 4,5" resin cast belt buckle (clip painted grey here):

As it's handmade by me, please don't take care about some irregular shapes or wrong finish details.
The design has some mistakes (bottom of central plate is 1mm longer on final design)
The 4,5" resin buckle will be available on demand too.
