Finally, a "modernized" version of the classic, instead of something freaky like those spinning phasers in the reboots. Heck, speaking of phasers, maybe they can get in touch with Ken Palkow and use the ones he prototyped for the reboots. The one we could have bought kits of the until a bunch of "shut up and take my money" types realized the good stuff is expensive and backed out.

Horizontal format version of the video from Trekmovie.com shows the bottom of the comm and what appears to be a silver sideplate or edge detail.

Sure but you can see the length from emitter to the back end, and the handle, all referenced to a human hand. So unless that is a tiny person, it's a big phaser.
