You guys know what brought this on, right?
The success of the LEGO movie. No joke. I guaran-frickin-tee you yet another unimaginative studio head looked at the success of that film, said "We can do that" and then went shopping for a license. And, to be fair, we'd probably all have dismissed "The LEGO movie" if all we had was the basic name, and yet that film is (supposedly) really good. (I haven't seen it yet.)
So, chances are, the PEZ movie is just an also-ran in this department, inspired by a studio directive to option more licenses.
