Peter Flarkin' Quill ( Star Lord)

Hey Guys, I had some time to kill today so i went on the hunt for Star-lord pieces. I went to Academy looking for workboots and the weird pocketed pants he wears. I was browsing the shoes and workboots while comparing images of the prop boots on my iphone, and I stumbled on something.

I drew it out so it's clear. First the props:
Then the shoes I found...which incidentally are just some casual Skechers:
So I started searching the catalog on Skechers and found these:

http://www.skechers.com/style/62895/diameter-garzo/blk#Color=CHOC

Check out the view of the bottom of the shoe too...same 'pebbly' texture.

I'm not 100% sure that THESE are the exact shoes because the detailing on the top of the shoe is hard to make out in the prop photos. But I'm 100% certain that the prop shoes ARE Skechers of some kind, covered up by the shin guards. They might be a discontinued style from a year or two ago. But I think you could make a case for these Skecher Diameter Garzos are pretty close. I noticed that a number of other Skechers styles have the same sole design, so take your pick.

We have a Skechers Outlet store nearby, so I'm going to go check out what they have in stock tomorrow. Failing that, i'll buy online.

Just wanted to share this info for all you accuracy buffs!

Great find my friend! I thought they didn't really look like boots, and I was perusing for hours. Originally thought they might be hiking boots or leather sneakers, I guess I was sort of close :lol

Just lucky I stumbled on them, glad I could help the cause. The good part is, I like skechers! They're comfortable and they look good. I can actually wear these before and after DragonCon...which helps justify spending $$$!

Very nice find on the shoes! Browsing through the Skechers, they're definitely from that series, but I haven't seen anything that is a perfect match. I'll keep my eyes open :thumbsup

Excellent find! Considering the kinds of mods we've seen on boot for Cap's Avengers boots and the Winter Soldier's boots, I would be kind of surprised if you can find an exact match for the shoes. The treads look pretty much dead on though! :)

I've been trying to work out where the pants came from. I found a high res image of Star-Lord, adjusted the levels in photoshop to bring out the details, and then traced the features out. here's what i came up with.

So there are a few features that stand out. The fly seems to be offset with that crotch-flap (lol), the front pockets are vertical with a button tab sticking out, there are seams across the mid-thigh that are either vents or expanded pockets, and what jumped out at me: the inner thigh linings. What do you need inner thigh support for? Riding.

I think these are motorcycle pants. I don't yet know what brand, and I'm currently combing through websites that sell riding gear to see what i come up with. But in my search so far i've seen features like these on different pants. Some pants have the offset fly, some have the vertical pockets, some have the inner-thigh lining. So i'm betting somewhere out there, these pants might already exist, or only need minor modifications.

If any of you are bikers with ideas, shout em out. Hope that helps. If i find them, i'll let you guys know. :)

I've seen that picture before...do we know the origin of it? what company is planning on making and selling a movie accurate costume?

You might be able to find something similar or "close enough", but Marvel has gone custom with just about everything in these movies

I'm thinking the same thing. Not only that, but browsing motorcycle websites, I realized that moto gear is EXPENSIVE!! Some places want $200-$500 for a single pair of pants!!

Yeah, I'll likely find some black cargo pants and run with those. :)

That's where i got them. I'm so excited to start painting them...if this rainy weather will let up!

Once i start painting, i'll make my own thread. :)

If you search "breeches" and "steampunk" on ebay a few results pop up that have potential. The trouble is the pants that look close enough have a lot of extra crap on them that may leave damage if removed. There's a set on there that looks pretty good, but has extra buckles just above the knees.

Look what arrived in the mail today!

From the picture you posted, it looks like both the top and bottom may be able to slide straight backwards (not up as it is meant to) with some modifications. This may render the blaster unable to to shoot the darts but should look a but more the part. Does that seem to be the case?

Before you go cutting them apart (If you decide to) what's your review on them as nerf blasters? My office often has nerf battles with highly modified nerf blasters, and if it starts off as a good platform, I may want some to modify.

Yes, I believe you're correct. The front part of the barrel covers are mounted on two internal hinge that arc up and out. Removing them from the hinges would allow you to slide them further back on the gun handle and possibly connect the front and back of the barrel covers for a more accurate look.

The rear part of the barrel covers are actually the air pumps you pull to cock the gun. So yes, doing these mods would make the gun inoperable. My plan is to leave them operational as they are, but disassemble and paint them to look as close to the movie blasters as possible.

As for shooting, i don't have a lot of nerf experience to go from, but they seem to shoot well and are pretty accurate. They are not fast firing. Firing all four darts requires:

Cock top barrel.
Fire top dart #1.
Cock bottom barrel.
Fire dart #2.
Pull second trigger to reveal two more barrels.
Cock top barrel.
Fire top dart #2
Cock bottom barrel
Fire bottom dart #2.

Or if you want, you can cock both barrels before firing and fire two (or four) darts at once. So yeah, not ideal for a gun battle. But they're fun to cock and shoot and flip open.

Hmmmmm. Doesn't sound right for nerf wars in the office. I think I'll stick to the one I ordered and mod it for the costume.

For me the costume is mostly in the "locate parts" phase still.

Helmet- rough sanding done. Next up I need to cut it apart to remove some depth from it, then add magnets to hold together.
Jacket- Ordering on Monday from fjackets Guardians of the Galaxy Chris Pratt Jacket as Peter Quill / Star-Lord
Half Chaps- need another bit of work with black polish
Jets- Main cast done only.
Belt buckle- Still in clay, need more dragon skin
Jet button x2- Haven't even thought about it :(
Pants- Crap! Still no Idea
Blaster- Nerf one on route but there are others. Amazon.com: Star Lord Blaster Costume Accessory: Clothing
Holster- Waiting until the Blaster gets here
Shirt- Hmmmmmmm?
Walkman- Maybe foam?

Am I missing anything from the base costume? Damn I have a tonne of work to do.
