Personal Props

Hello there guys and gals. As I already wrote in my Introduce-Yourself-Post, I'm fairly new to making props, quite a newb. Yeah, I did my lightsabers and whatnot, but who didn't?

I'm astonished by the work you did and skill you have. Really. My mind is blown away.

But let's cut to the line: I love watching the props you did, love the accuracy and every detail. However, since I'm building me a spaceship-cockpit thingy which isn't a movie prop (however could be one, one day... maybe.. ahum): Have you ever built a prop from scratch? Not a movie prop, just a thing you thought about and built it.

For example: I started with my chair to be rebuild into a from-scratch-prop. I used the Saitek X52 Pro Flight Joystick which has been used in the rather crappy G.I. Joe - Rise of the Cobra 'movie'. I just started with the build, so to get an idea on how big it should be, what dimensions I need, I used cardboard to build an alpha-version of the arm-rests.

(Sorry for the bad quality, but I only have my webcam here atm)

So yeah. What did you built from scratch?

P.S.: First Thread, I did use the search. Please don't lapidate me!

This is way cool! Years ago back when I 1st got married I had grand visions of taking one of those portable buildings and making a spaceship control room out of it. Fully decked out with small tvs hooked up to vcrs that showed space scenes and one of those wall murals cut to fit a simulated viewscreen. My 1st born ended that dream though, not that I mind. :cool
