Question Permission to do raffles to fundraise for DFN?

I was wondering if we could get a little bit of wiggle room on the NO RAFFLE rule we have, and make an exception for a fundraiser or three for DFN.

I am ordering some new props, and also have some stuff here that I think could work as raffle prizes, and more than likely some other members do as well.

Toss in a few simple rules like the member has to be in good standing to start a raffle, no minimum needs to be reached for the raffle to take place, starting and ending dates, etc.

I think it would work out fairly easily, and help out one of our fellow members.

Lemme know if it's cool, and I can get the thread posted and ready to go.

I think it's a great idea myself. :thumbsup

Maybe the admin could set a few ground rules to ensure that everything is above board for special occasions like this.

The problem with raffles is that their legal status differs from State to State and county to county. While it may be perfectly legal to have a raffle in one place, if someone enters from a place where it isn't legal, you could be setting yourself up for huge problems. And RPF, by hosting it, could be doing the same thing.

Just to give you an idea, take a look at this link: What are the raffle laws of each state? | Raffle FAQ

Wow.... I can't believe there are laws in the US about this? Over here you wanna raffle you have a raffle.... That's it. But what if the raffle is held in cyberspace? How does the law apply then? Or for example if I held the raffle myself here in Australia it shouldn't affect anyone right?

Same here. That sucks!

I don't think State laws apply to an international raffle though do they? IE. If you're from Maine and they say you can't have raffles but you enter one hosted in Indiana which can is that illegal?

This is exactly the issue... or at least the primary one. We are talking to our legal team about this, but I am going to go ahead and predict that we will NOT be able to host any type of raffle here, not due to a lack of desire but due to the legal issues accompanying a raffle.

Just a thought, but what about doing the raffle via another site such as indiegogo? I think it would provide an excellent platform for collecting money, a larger audience to attract, and would remove any liability for The RPF. Anyways, just thinking out loud.

How about if I sell a number for say fifty bucks in the JY. There all original with no flashing and little cleanup required. Not recasts but original numbers. And for one lucky member I'll throw in a free Gift!

They are really nice numbers as seen in your favorite films. For example you may want to purchase the number four as seen in star wars episode 4. Or if your a dukes of hazard fan maybe the numbers 05 will appeal to you. Bond Fan? We got 007 for you.

indiegogo doesn't allow raffles either. I have a friend who was doing a fundraiser and they wanted to do a raffle and got shut down.

Why not just sell some items and donate the money to DFN?

Get his paypal address and have the payments sent to him directly.

Guys, we are going to have to recommend this as well. We simply can't allow raffles here on the RPF.

IF anyone wants to sell items to benefit Michael and Arthur via eBay, we will be glad to create a thread in which all of those items can be posted.

I know this is a bit of a bummer, but unfortunately, we just can't do raffles here.

No worries Art..... There goes my plan... I can't sell a product on EBay that isn't finished. Mine was a kit that will be available mid Jan so selling my place on the JY list as a raffle was the only option. Otherwise I'll have to wait until Jan when the kit is ready.
