Pepakura Cirrus X-3 Jet Pack from The Rocketeer

Okay so first off, long time lurker and now my first time starting a thread about a project I've been working on and would like to have your all's input as well as advice on some other things for this build.

To start off, I already have worked with the pepakura method on creating a Rockteer helmet.

It was my first using pepakura, but in the end I think it the helmet turned out decent. I gave it a bit of a weathered look to help hide the imperfections. And from how well that build was going gave me the confidence to start working on a pepakura Cirrus X-3.

Here are photos of what the helmet now looks like. (If anyone wants progress photos of the helmet, just let me know and I'll post them)

Now, here is a short bit of my progress I have had since starting the jet pack.

I started with assembling it(obviously) then fiber glassing, then to rondo and sanding. Then once I started to get the pack smoothed out I began spraying sandable primer sealer, which I was recommend in the Pepakura FAQ thread when I sought advice about the helmet. It really does help show what imperfections I have as well as helping getting it smoother.

In the final pic it is quite clear that there are many imperfections I still have to clear out on the pack's body. In the mean time while I wait to get more materials to help smooth it out more, I've been working on adding the triangular fins that go at the top, which I cut them out of 1/8 plastic sheeting.

So some things I was curious about from forum members, especially those who have scratch built or have used pepakura to build themselves a Cirrus X-3.

What are good supplements or ideas that you have either used or would recommend for things such as the thrusters at the bottom of the pack?

And what about mounting them into the pack? I was thinking of cutting small PVC piping to size and attaching the thruster to it, and then drilling a hole through the pipe and the back of the jet pack and securing it with bolts. I might even design it to where I can unscrew the thruster from the pack using threaded PVC couplings, or whatever they are called. Does that sound doable at all?

Also, what ideas do you recommend for such things as the creating the two oval shapes on the jet pack as well as faking the bolts on the pack? I've looked around the forums and remembered someone saying they used googly eyes for those.

Thanks for any advice given, as well as taking the time on reading my post!

^_^
