Pegasus 1/144th scale Luna

This is a photo of my recently completed Pegasus 1/144th scale Luna, photographed against a black background. I added stars and an old-school matte painting in Photoshop to complete the look.

The most ironic part of this model's construction was that I really wanted to achieve the cracked earth look of the original Destination Moon lunar surface, so I deliberately sprayed incompatible paints over a lacquer base with inadequate drying time between coats in an effort to make the paint crack. Wouldn't you know it? The one time I TRY to get the paint to do something bad, it cures flawlessly.

On the up side, the textured paint made for a convincing lunar surface.

Anyway, enjoy...

No build pics, sorry. It really wasn't much of a build....there are only about a half dozen pieces in the kit. The biggest challenge was finish. I spent a lot of time sanding and filling. It wasn't without incident, though....I originally purchased the 1:350th scale Luna kit, and when I tried to clamp the fuselage pieces together, it shot out of the clamp and hit the wall nose first, ruining the kit. So I went back to the hobby shop and bought the bigger one lol.

I used Duplicolor primer and Tamiya silver leaf spray. I didn't paint the kickstand red, even though that would be more accurate. It just looks weird to me. Everything was rattle can, except the landing pads, which were hand painted. The terrain was a mix of crap I had in the garage, plus some textured brown paint I bought at the hardware store. I hit it with a little black from one side to bring out the crater detail.

Here's a photo of it sitting on my hutch...
