Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

looks good and thats funny..i did the same thing this afternoon along with the propeller..im not sure when im gonna be done for sure as some parts i want to redo once i figure out exactly how to do it..the custom stuff is definatly the hardest part. although with the rear bags i feel its way more Pee Wee fied

Siren Mounting

I decided to finish my siren, or should I say sirens!

I made a tracing of a Schwinn gooseneck, then used a level and my bicycle to figure out what angle the siren should be mounted so that if faces forward - on the real bike the tiger sort of faces up into the air, but I wanted it looking ahead:

I marked out some 1" wide brass strips (from hobbytown) and drilled them on Nick Daring's drill press.

I bent the brass brackets by hand with clamps and pliers - it's tricky because you have to unclamp it to check the angles and reclamp it to make adjustments. But it worked.

I also cut aluminum plates (on Nick's tablesaw) - one for the bottom and a smaller one for inside. I used 1/8" thick aluminum (as opposed to the movie bike's 1/4" because that's all Hobbytown had - but I think it works fine.) I drilled the plates to match the brass brackets.
I previously modified my siren bottoms to be flat - this involves cutting off the mounting divit and filling in the area with modelling epoxy.
I also reinforced both my boxes with fiberglass drywall tape and polyester resin.
I backed my aluminum plates with self-adhesive foam from Hobby Lobby.

I drilled the boxes for the aluminum plates, and then drilled six more mounting holes as per the museum bike.

I painted my re-sculpted tiger head with acrylic craft paint- here's a side by side:

I sealed the acrylic with Krylon Crystal Clear.

I had to dremel out some of the siren back plates to get them to fit around some of the bolts. I also dremeled a flat edge on some washers because the clearance on the Schwinn gooseneck is minimal. Also, I painted the boxes Krylon gloss black.

Looking good...I saw a show a while back (may have been mentioned here too, I just didn't dig through all 24 pages) that they made one of these on. Makes me want to go back and watch the movie again! :lol

More Siren Mounting - finishing up.

I used a bunch of hi-temp hot glue to glue the heads to the boxes. I bolted everything together and mounted them up and now I have . . .
His and Hers Tiger Siren Bikes!

Hopefully this helps anyone who plans to make a movie style mount for their siren.

After my first siren cracked and flew into the air while riding the bike, I can see why the movie mount is so hardcore.

The next problem to solve is how to get a working siren with the speaker hole now completely covered up - my idea is to mount the speaker where the red radar globe is and drill a grill of holes out of the globe.

I'd also like to put in better electronics and an i-pod plug-in. With a link that plugs into my wife's bike so we can cruise in Stereo!

Rudd how i mounted my prop, just a machine screw double nutted thru the lense, i have no idea how the movie one is mounted but a screw looks visible from front. i used a thick piece of plastic from the side of a antifreeze bottle i trimmed tweaked and painted for the prop..those tigers sirens are cool, thanks for the step by step

hauled my PW bike 7 hours away to cruise the boardwalk in OC MD..although its way to foggy to see the Atlantic is on other side of that beach.

A yellow oil bottle would work great since you would have to paint it, thanks for the idea!
I'll be making a small nylon stand off between the lens and the prop. BTW if you guys need new lenses, the owner of thecabe.com sells them.

My updated, I got my left side bag formed, I need to mount it the plywood and start sanding and primering it.

I picked up another DX frame at the swap today, just as back up.
I've got all my fins cut out, just need to mount the fins like you guys are doing. BTW the fins are screwed in from the bottom, the top piece on the Super Rocket ray should be 1/8th inch red acylic. I can't tell how its glued in but it look fine the way you did yours Rudd, did you clean off the glue that pushed out?

Ed told me he's working on the Tiger siren molds still.

That is about it.
Your progress is looking good guys!

I left the glue that squeezed out, I figured it would make it more secure. i'll paint the glue white before assembly. I opted not to use screws on the big fin, because I know I would have messed that up.

I believe that was from a scene that was cut from the Warner Brothers chase scene... I want to say they show it on the bonus features on the dvd.

yes i have that dvd with the bonus features, ill have to rewatch it as i dont remember seeing that? thanks

If you guys ever see any pics of Dottie's bike- I need them. I have some of the part to build a Dottie bike for my wife, but I really want to confirm what bike it was.
I'll be mounting my bags this week, I'll post pics then.

Abe what was the Dottie bike? they dont show much of it in the movie..pictures actually exist of it?

Pictures have to exist-someplace. I think it's a girls 1950's Monark Super Deluxe with a delta Super Torpedo and a large basket.

My understanding is that a guy on eBay was selling reproductions awhile back, although that has since dried up.

Here are the mounted bag images, I'll be adding more supports to the lower fender strut- they're just roughly mounted right now. They need to be pulled up and in. Also I think I'm going to narrow them more.
And yes I'm making working doors on the bags.
Just updating.

I think pulling them in a bit is a good idea. Also, that right side bag doesnt seem to have the same angle as the left one, as seen from the rear shot. The left one appears to come in more on the bottom while the right side looks to be pretty vertical. But I gotta say those came out really nice. Good thickness on the plastic too.

What did you end up making your frame skirt from, and how thick is it?
