Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

Your emitter looks awesome, man. I would love to see a pic of "the nibbler".
The transistor weathering looks very good too, but damn, that emitter looks awesome and old and like it's seen many battles.

i was curiously about the nibbler as well, first time in a long time it took my computer alittle while to download the pics.

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

So I misspoke when I called it the "nibbler" when in fact, its an "air chisel". I'm a newb to air tools. Sorry. The nibbler cuts sheet metal.

This is basically what I used, the tool on the bottom right. They come in different sizes.

A couple of notes:

1. Always put the item you're working with in a vice or you'll likely miss and chisel your finger like I did. Painful...

2. Never pull a piece apart into its components to chisel it because it probably won't go back together again after you've dinged it all up. The emitter almost didn't go back together when I was done banging away on it with this thing.

Other than that, it's freaking fun working with air tools.

Nice work on the balance pipe. :0
The gren body is a beauty. A real treasure.
The frosted bubbles isn't my thing...but it will fit the saber perfectly.

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

It's been awhile since I updated this thread because I've been slammed with little time to build but with the holidays here and a major addition to the build, it's time to boot it up.
I posted a separate thread for this as it's an amazing find. A vintage booster! I never would have thought it possible.
Thanks goes out to Mugatu for making the impossible, possible.

Looks like it's time to get back in the shop!

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

its in wonderful shape congratulations! Looks like a powdery or matte coating...cant wait to see it on your saber!

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

I'm super jealous. I've seen all the parts for sale at one time or another except for the booster. Great find and great build.

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

Thanks guys! It's been hard passing up other items and selling other treasures to save the coins for this.
In the end, if I ever find the balance pipe, I think it'll be worth it.

So I thought I'd post a quick pic of the booster installed after removing Roman's fantastic weathered version.
I still haven't cleaned it or coated it with anything. I figure the original cosmoline or whatever grease it's been in all these years will hold it another week or so until I can give it the attention it deserves.

Not an inspired photo exactly, just a quick reference shot.

The photo might not be inspired, but it is inspiring! Looks awesome, man!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement.

Re: "Where'd you dig up that old fossil?" My real parts OB1 "Artifact" build.

So it's been a long time since I updated this thread but as you guys know, this is one of the toughest builds to put together.

Anyway, I had been fortunate enough to get a real booster but it was in almost perfect condition with a powder coat finish. It just didn't fit the concept of my artifact build but I couldn't bring myself to weather/mark up a piece of history. I decided to be happy with it being a vintage part and move on.

Teecrooz got in touch with me and offered one of his very cool weathered boosters and we made a trade. I think it fits right in. It matches up really well with the grenade. I still have some work to do on the clamp and pommel as well as sourcing the last piece; the balance pipe. Roman's is an excellent stand in until and if I ever find the real deal.

I hope you guys like it.
