To preface, I made my first suit prior to any knowledge of the Lair!
Needless to say, I felt like I had finally found the "homeworld" when
I found this four star forum.
Realizing my suit was left wanting I began
plans for a new suit that I have been working on in my sparetime for
about 9 months. Please keep in mind that I have never attempted the
"sculpt, mold and cast" method before. I do have one of the Lair's best
as my mentor and friend, he knows who he is, and I'm sure throughout
my endevour he will continue to inspire and instruct me along "the path"!
So with out further adue, let this adventure begin!
First, I scavenged the skull trophies and necklace from my first suit!
The large Grizzly claw compliments of Seahunterr!
Then I constructed a spear, made from wooden dowels and scrap bucket
plastic from another project.
I then purchased a Ruffkintoy P2 head w/ RAM bio, as I knew this is the focal
point of most costumes and it must be "awe inspiring" to look upon!
I have not began painting the head just yet as I'm following the past teachings
of both sensei Ta2pro and sensei TMI! Use the "search" feature, a valuable
learning tool! Soon.........very soon!
Note that I was sculpting for the first time ever doing this tri laser mod to the
RAM. I then molded and casted it as instructed by my mentor. Once attached
and and painted it almost looks like is was cast that way!
I have also purchased an alternate bio to wear and paint it up simular, a
Ruffkintoy Celtic, pic compliments of Chuck.
I then purchased my dreads and beads from Bambooie, these are tops!! Will
finish painting beads and attach once done painting my mask.
Ok from here is where I really began my design process. Was I going for P2
or something custom? CUSTOM ALL THE WAY!!
So I began thought on a mandible moving device that would work with my mask.
This is what I came up with, underskull is fiberglass. Still working the bugs out,
I was never really that good with engineering! I'll get it worked out though!
Then I began to think of skin tones and armour designs, mainly the latter! When I
came upon "Leea's" concept drawings here in the Lair, now there's something different!
I am especially basing my new suit off the last drawing, yet liked aspects of all!
Then was the decisions of fabricating versus purchasing all else that was needed
to complete this suit. So I began purchasing things while I finished my design
process. I purchased hands from Ta2pro, no paint until skintones deceided upon.
Shurikens from Seahunterr, one open, one closed both raw.
After some assembly, sanding and paint.........SHAZAM!!
I then purchased a wristblade animatronic from Nightslayer666 and a P2 neckring
from Biohunter76, both to soon arrive I'm sure!
I then began sculpting a set of feet to match my design, I thought I did well on the
sculpt.
But when I molded them...............I fouled the mold by mixing it wrong!
Classic newbie mistake, won't do that again! As it cost about 35 hours sculpt
time. Oh the disappointment! To take a step back, I began sculpting a Wolf
whip handle for the whip I hope to incorporate into my suit.
After molding and casting the first, I realized my molds weren't
exactly "spot on", the second casting is much better. Still working on this prop!
Here's a pic of the first casting after it was sanded and painted, I may sell it
for the price of the bull whip core in the future.
Meanwhile I also purchased a set of gaunts and comp top from Mr Fett,
yet to paint due to reasons stated prior and all electronic controls installed.
And a belt and claymores from Batguano, got so excited didn't get any "before"
pics!
I am hoping to outsource my caster and caster animatronics to Carlart and Honus
to complete to ensemble. "So where are you now?", you ask. Well after a brief
break from this to build a 10' x 36' deck on the back of the house, I began my
feet again. Left foot done, right foot.............hope to get done this week!
I plan to paint my own skin suit, sculpt, mold and cast all of the remaining armour.
TO BE CONTINUED.................
