Does anyone have any tutorials on painting human skin? On a bust? I know getting good human skin requires layers of various colors - can anyone give any advice?

I use oil paints for flesh to get the depth in the skin colour tones. I use winsor and newton because of the fine colour pigment. Also, the advantage of using oil paints is that you will have more time to adjust the tones and shades.

If you use oil paints; white, yellow orche, burnt senia basic mix (may vary with other people). You can use a bit of blue, green and even lamp black for tones.

You will also need the primary colours as well to adjust the tones.

Base white primer, with a thin coat of light flesh (oil paints will not dry on a lacquer base paint; if I remember correctly).

Mix the three oil paint colours to get a flesh tone you desire. Paint recesses with burnt senia straight from the tube.

Use white paper or tissue to absorb some of the oils by squeezing the paint onto a piece of white paper then transfer the paint onto the pallet.

Apply the basic flesh mixture on to the whole flesh area on the bust. And stab the paint. Put some white for highlights and blend by stabbing the paint along the borders between the two tones of paints to get a graduation of tones.

Just my two c if you are using oil paints... tell you more if you decided on oil:sleep
