painting a Biggs helmet

Does anyone have any tips for painting the checkerboard patterns on a biggs helmet. I am thinking of painting the yellow and then taping off and spraying the black over that. any help would be appreciated

That's the way I'd do it.It might also pay to use different types of paint for the two colours eg-enamel for the yellow and acrylic for the black, that way if you mess it up you can wipe off the black without affecting the base yellow.

How about this?

Paint one color (yellow) and cover that with (black)
Monocote adhesive film. http://www.monokote.com/opaque.html

Then cut out the checkerboard to reveal the other color underneath.

Lastly, kill the 'too new' shine with a coat of something like testors dull coat.

As always: light coats. Especially important when spraying with templates, to avoid problem at the masking tape's edges. Spray perpendicular to the surface.
Let the yellow coat cure properly before laying on masking tape.
(mistakes that I made with my X-wing helmet)

I have been using some of Stephen's pics for reference since I couldn't get any great screen-caps of the back of the helmet

here are some pics.

rams horns painted (yeah i had some over-spray. )

My goal is to be done by Friday. I know that is rushing it but I am going to Super Mega Fest in Boston and Garrick Hagon will be there. So I really want to debut it with him present

I have printable clear sticker paper and files for the victory logo and the "circle with lines logo" Does anyone have a file with the "eye logo" on it

this is the one i am talking about

Almost done. I am going to spray it with some dull coat to knock off the gloss. and then a light wash with some black tempra thinned with water to weather it

Excellent! :thumbsup
Though you might want to hit the 'faux-stache' with a bit of dull coat too. :lol
