Pacific Rim Jaeger Resource **03/04 Striker Eureka unfolds added**

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

The helmet scale was just an arbitrary number. I set the scale oversized so that if people change the size they will most likely go smaller, and all the unfolded parts will still fit on the paper they are printed on.
Scaling a suit all depends on how someone wants to build it. If it's actually going to be worn (and not just a display), you've gotta figure out what height works for you, if you're going to use stilts and/or arm extensions, heck even if you are actually going to see through the helmet or just the chest.
Bottom line is, changes would HAVE TO BE MADE. A human being cannot reasonably fit into any of these jaeger suits without the models being modified. Hips are too wide, shoulder span is too great, heads are too small, joints are too narrow, etc etc etc....

yeah... if it were to be a costume I guess I'll have to sacrifice movie accuracy the problem is how would one go about that?

sorry for cluttering this thread :angel

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Cherno Alpha's hip joints would have to be widened if anyone wanted to wear it with stilts. Perhaps have the wearer looking out of the connpod section in it's chest, while having the rest of the headpiece sitting above their head? That could potentially help with the sizing issue.

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

If you have experience with modeling software, you can use the following file(s) to see how a body can fit in the suits. The following is the .blend file and also an .obj file of the 3 suits along side 3 randomly scaled bodies. I usually determine my build sizes by adjusting the digital mannequins until they fit the way I want them to.

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

It looks like that the middle mannequin will fit in the gipsy danger fairly comfortably, the only issue it seems that his arms will have to be placed like the silhouette in this page gundam__mecha_cosplay_tutorial___lesson_1_4_by_miragecld-d5evqdk.jpg so the wearers bicep will not line up 100% with the costume bicep

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Are models for the pilot suits available?

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

I have the game-based pilot suit/harness assembly.

Operator suit/harness assembly .OBJ

****UPDATED- not a generic operator suit, in game version of Real Steel's Atom, thnx MorbidCharlie for identifying****

Great, now I want a Crimson Typhoon suit.

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

I have a question for the other [3d] modelers on this forum; is there a way to remove and internal geometry on a model other than the boolean modifier in blender? these models seem to have quite a few of these issues and I was wondering if there was an alternative to separating each offending piece and reattaching it via the boolean tool

Laellee - that's not Pacific Rim, that's a weird OBJ of Atom from Real Steel with extra hands for some reason.

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Well that explains A HELL OF A LOT with a couple of things, then :) Thanks for pointing that out, I am pretty sure I have a texture for him as well. Now I gotta go dig into the filework again. So I guess you can play as Atom too in the Pacific Rim game. Well now I have one reason to regret not seeing Real Steel.... Thanks again! :thumbsup

What are you trying to do? Pepakura will not be very happy trying to open the entire suit at once; it's a lot of info for Pepakura to process and can crash it. You should be able to open an individual .OBJ part in Pepakura, and then import other pieces using the file menu.
If you are looking to modify the files themselves, you will need to use modeling software such as 3DSMAX or Blender.

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

thanks laellee, I was actually on labtop and just had the viewer on there. had to open on my desktop lol

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Hey, I'm gunna be building the Gipsy Danger suit pretty much to scale with the movie.

using the files from the 405th here

I don't intend to fit in it and do the sort of method the people who make dinosaur costumes do, where the limbs are visible but clad in black. This should make the suit relatively accurate. I have the skinniest hips as well so I should be able to fit in it!

I'll be starting the foam build soon, thought I'd let you know and say thanks to the people working on these files. I hope I'll do your work proud!

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Will anyone be doing Striker Eureka files? especially the helmet?

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

my question is how would we scale the actual suit? because if we were to scale everything to the size of the helmet the costume would be like 9ft tall

9ft, right, I need to scale it up a bit in that case.

My plan is for a 3m high version of this for my next cosplay. :eek

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

My first build (post-discovery of theRPF) was Gypsy Danger for my kid's Halloween costume. I started with the pepakura helmet here to prove to myself I could do it, and then free-handed most of the rest. He won first prize at his Tae Kwon Do studio and had a blast trick-or-treating. It wouldn't have been possible with out this thread and this other one over at the 405th. Thanks :love

He and I outside our 'Insane Asylum' themed house.

The helmet lights and shoulder shield lights were so bright that we didn't even need a flashlight to walk around for trick-or-treating. We didn't turn on the reactor ( a CPU fan ) because it was chilly, but folks loved the red LEDs I wired in that made it 'glow'.

Thanks!

Re: Pacific Rim Jaeger Model Resource (READ 1ST POST BEFORE QUESTIONS!!!)

Of course, just wish I had more time to work out these files... They need a BOATLOAD of modifying in modeling software, the designers just threw all the components together so they'd look good as solids, the interior geometry is garbage. :( At least the models look good.
Maided, if you want a challenge, I'll send you over these guys :lol:lol:lol
