As the first official recipient of one of these gorgeous 24K gold plated idols, I thought I would post a couple pictures. I used a combo of black primer (applied and wiped off) and frosted glass matte spray (also applied and wiped off in certain areas) to give a slight aged effect. It was absolutely beautiful before my weathering, but I like the slightly antique look personally as it looks a little more like an ancient artifact.
I think Oz's sculpt is absolutely beautiful. The glass eyes are perfectly set and the whole thing is totally seamless. It's also SUPER heavy, and I didn't even get the weighted version. The plating adds significant weight on it own.
Just a quick word about the plating. It is really something else. I've owned a vac-metalized idol before and effect is quite different. It's not really something you can see in photographs, but vac-metalizing applies the metal really evenly in the cracks and recesses and everything looks pretty equally shiny. The effect doesn't look quite like real metal, IMO. But with plating, there is some roughness in the recesses where the buffing wheel can't get to and there's also some variations in hues (copperish to even silverish) in the various undercuts. It's unmistakably metal and it's cold to the touch.
All in all, Oz did a fantastic job with this piece and I couldn't be happier. The other folks who ordered these are certainly in for a treat.
