Original Rebel Fleet Trooper Helmet info wanted

I'm doing a little bit of information gathering on this helmet, trying to figure out wha the original helmets were like...

I've done a quick search in the archives and I couldn't find any info.

Where these helmets done by the same guys that did the stormtrooper armor? and were they the same plastic? same color?

I'm pretty sure they are white, but someone on another board is sure it's grey. So I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone knows with any certainty? I'm not worried about it, I'm going to use white for the helmets I pull, but I just want to know from a historical perspective what was used. It's mostly curiosity, both ways look fine.

Did any of the helmets survive? Any in private hands? I think the costume it self was probably rented, since I can find NO references in any of the star wars picture books for these guys. They are a very Iconic character, since they are the first guys you see in the movie.

Here's the ones I just pulled for last weekends parade march.

They're a sort of green/grey type colour. For those of you who have the 365 Days book if you look at the photo opposite page 44 showing the ceremony you can clearly see this same colour used on the flight ground crew helmets.

really?

wierd... i figured they werent pristene white, but... grey/green?

man its wierd how light and cameras affect the props that are being filmed.

like how many of us never noticed vaders helmet was black and grey... it just looked black...

man you learn something new everyday.

especially if your an RPFer. B)

They are believed to have been not perfect white because they look darker than the wall panels in Tantive IV.

I think that we can not say that they had a green tint, unless that info came from someone who have actually seen a real helmet .. back in '76. Plastic and paints age.
We can absolutely not trust any picture. There is the lighting when the scene was shot. There are many things that can influence the color in a picture. Film stock aging, different types of film are different, the print (film copying) process etc..

I wrote AA a while back about this helm and this was his reply.

Dear Jeff
Yes the Rebel Fleet trooper is on the cards.. Should be this Autumn.
They were grey with smokey grey acrylic visors..
We will make then identical.
All the best

NO AA bashing or anything. just bringing up the "they were grey" part.

I make mine from stock white HIPS but the Sunrider Base did theirs in a light Pewter color. IMHO the ones used on film were a different color than the stormtroopers. The chin cups may have been the same white as the X-wing helmets, but in the shots you see of the RFT helmets up close, they look the same color as the helmet, so who knows.

Green, I don't think so IMHO. ABS pond material, maybe. Ainsworth making them, interesting.

Badger, BTW nice looking RFT 's you have there.

tbh I assumed they were made from the same ABS that was used for the X-Wing Pilot helmets, which was a fairly shiny but slightly off-white colour.

There's a couple in private hands but I've never seen one in person so cant confirm either way.

Cheers
