Original MMPR Megazord (Dinozord)!

Every time I finish a build I tell myself that I will take a break for a while before I begin my next project, and most times this fails after about 3 days of innactivity, however this time it has taken me a short while (around a month) before I have begun my next build. That being said, it wasn't actually due to any willpower on my behalf, I got the 'building bug' within a week, however I couldn't decide what I wanted to do next!

That uncertainty all changed when I chanced upon a Youtube video of memorable Power Ranger moments etc which set my mind whirring. I decided I MUST make an original Megazord, if for no other reason than pure nostalgia of my childhood. I managed to find a pretty damn decent base model/pep file which I set about re-engineering for a foam build and that I will add small details to as I go, but the basic main shape is there which is a great start!

All I have to show so far is the incomplete helmet. I have gotten a little further since this picture was taken, the helmet is almost finished now. I will post a shot once it's all together!

Exia1717: Thanks! Still working on things, it might be a slow build but we'll see how it all turns out in the end :D.

So it's been a while between drinks update wise. I've been slowly pottering along. I have the head almost done, few more detail pieces to put on, but the basics of it are there.

And I have most of the Sabretooth head for the right foot done as well :D. Have the rest of the right leg files printed, just need to get working on it!

Is there any way you can release the files you modded for foam? I would like to make this as well but cant seem to find the files

And do you have any updates? Very fascinated

So sorry it took so long for me to get back to you Willstuff! I've been busy with my wedding preparation (16 days away now lol) and haven't had time for costuming or much else other than work to be honest. I'll PM you with a link to what I currently have unfolded, which includes the entire model I'm working from, I just haven't finished breaking the pieces up for the foam build but it's probably 75% done at this point. Hopefully that will at least help you get started :).

No worries Will :) Hope it helps!

Now that the wedding is over and done with I have thrown myself right back into costume mode, and with only 2.5 weeks left before the next local Convention, I have yet again left myself in a position whereby I'll be rushing to get this finished in time. This time however it wasn't entirely my fault as I had planned on pushing this build back to early next year so I had plenty of time to do it right because of all the lost time due to wedding prep etc...but then I found out that the original Red and Black Rangers were coming to the Con in November, so now obviously I must have the Megazord done by then!!

With that in mind, have a few more progress pics:

Thighs completed.

One complete arm!

Everything I have so far minus the helmet (which I forgot to put into the photo :$) and the left leg which is still not completed.

10730769_732198640194098_2211581453853191360_n.jpg

Still left to do is:
*Torso
*Finish off left leg which is about 75% finished
*Right leg
*Tail/spine pieces
*Shoulder cannon bits to add to torso.
*Detailing work on all pieces
*Seal
*Prime
*Paint.

I have 2.5 weeks left.

COSPLAY BERSERKER MODE ENGAGED!!

Wish me luck lol.

Back with another quick update! I've been throwing myself headlong into the build in the past days since I last posted and I've made some progress. Few pictures below:

Main torso build is done, just needs detailing. Although it seems I forgot arm holes :p Those will be added soon...Or I could remain a penguin...

Test fit with helmet and cod pieces in place as well. Looks a little wierd due to no arm holes warping the torso shape, and having to hold the cod up with my forearms because I haven't added an attachment method yet, but it's looking a little more like it's supposed to with a few pieces together :D. (And yes, those are Justice League boxer shorts :p)

Picked up some sprayable goodness so I'm ready for the painting to begin! I got some weird looks and a few 'graffiti' jokes walking out of the store with this much spray paint...I swear I have a legitimate reason to need this much spray paint!!

As of this morning I have finished the shoulder cannons and the spine pieces, they just need to be attached to the back of the torso as in this pic they've just been stacked up. That will only take a few minutes though :D.

So now, in terms of pieces that still need to be finished/made, I only have the legs left! I'm going to make a start on finishing up the Sabretooth Tiger leg (right) tonight and then on to the Triceratops leg (left). I think I'll start doing some detailing of other pieces in between to break it up so I can get a few pieces completely finished and begin the sealing process and build between coats for efficiency :).

Thanks for the praise guys and gals :) Sorry for the lack of updates but I'm throwing myself headlong into this project to try and get it finished in time! I'm up to detailing work, sealing and painting and quickly running out of days lol. A few pics below if you're interested.

Testing sealing options, I'm using a product called Rustoleum Peel Coat which is similar to Plastidip (rubber in a can basically) but it's $10 a can less here in Aus lol. Testing whether it effects the result depending on using PVA as a pre primer. As you can see below it does, and I've eventually gone with using 2 coats of PVA and then using the Peel Coat. This gives a nicer result, but unfortunately takes a lot longer lol.

The completed Right Leg (minus sabreteeth).

After finishing the above leg I went straight into the next one, this is the completed (minus horns) triceratops head

Due to the height of the legs being slightly too tall for my own legs, and my need to have my knee joint above the top of the leg to be able to actually walk in them, I have had to create some small stilts. My original idea was to use cut sections of PVC pipe with an MDF top to attach the shoes to, however after having an idea and grabbing some XPS foam board I had lying around I discovered that with the weight displacement of my feet the foam board was more than strong enough to hold my weight, was much more stable and easier to get level (cutting PVC pipe with a handheld hacksaw and trying to get both sides flat is frakkin' impossible!), and was lighter. My new stilts are one piece of 30mm XPS sandwiched between two pieces of 50mm XPS, bookended with two pieces of 3mm MDF for durability and held together with No More Nails.

As I'm at the sealing and painting stages I don't have much more current progress to share, so below is a pic of my hi-tech solution to gluing my shoes to the stilts, and a picture of my freshly sealed forearm pieces dangling off my clothes line.

I really hope I get this done in time for Sunday :S.

Hey will, sorry man completely forgot to update this with the finished pics!

Here are a couple of pics from the couple of hours I managed to run* around in this thing before I started getting a few malfunctions and had to get changed. (*Run = Shuffle)

And below is a 360 view from inside the SyFy 360 Cam:

She needs a few fix ups and a few logistical changes to make her easier to wear (that's what happens when you only finish the suit at 1am the night before you debut it and don't have time to test fit) but then the Megazord will be out and about again :D

Yeah that was actually one of the issues I had with not test fitting Kialna, but should hopefully be rectified before the next outing :)
