ORCA scratch build

I haven't verified this post's accuracy, but according to the Orca Rebuild FB page, it was "the same shark from Joe Alves's concept art drawings that was also on the production crew shirts."

Edit: That seems to be it:

That settles it for me pm me your address. I’ll send you a barrel from my first post. I made them before I’d settled on making the hole orca.

so so much to do but I'm getting to the point when I can make a doable list. I've written to MECA to see if there is any way I can get a Brody ( I'm not holding any hopes ) I've bought another Hooper and will have to do a bodge job like my Gaff for the spinner. the big sticking point at the momant is the bottle screws. They have to be removable so it can be dismantled. worst comes to worst I'll use necklace clasps but at the moment I'm holding out I can make something durable. I've ordered some watchmakers Taps a dies in case I have to machine them. Not lost hope in the white metal yet if I can get the mold right. eveything else is just plodding along.

I've a feeling someone is going to be wanting to make Quint's harbour house soon. Need a place to moor this crazy awesome piece!

Love the addition of Benchley's First Print book in the group!

Gonna need a photo of Hoop with his pants leg rolled up, foot on the table, with Quint in that exact pose in the second photo looking all "wtf" !

Bonus points if the model that was released has all the scars he mentions! If not... why doesn't he! Mary Ellen Moffit!

Edit:

I hope you post a video on reddit when done, maybe /r/nextf***inglevel or similar. Would absolutely blow up.

Or if there was a theRPF subreddit for people to post to...

I can't decide which is more epic - the amount of incredible detail, or the speed at which this project has come together. Both are stratospheric!

Would love to see this in person - do you ever exhibit at shows?

Thank you everyone for your very kind words. I am humbled as there have been some amazing build of the orca already, I’ve cheated by increasing the scale. I discovered the RPF and all you guys/girls/geeks wile on location stuck in a hotel. I’ve been doing my job for 33 years and had lost my mo jo, I’d forgotten what it was that made the hair stand up on my arms. Watching you all making amazing replicas of the things that got me interested In the first place filled my heart with joy. I tried just doing the odd weekend in my tiny shed but that resulted in my spinner taking 5 years and a disappointing result for me. ( I will be doing it again) . I’m lucky enough to live near Geek1138 and got to go visit his workshop. That man it a one man model building construction crew. I asked how he does it. “ l get up everyday come to the shop and work then go home “ so the reason this has been a quick build is after my last job. I made a decision, take some time off working for other people and have some fun like a kid again. I’ve had a lot of people die this year , my dad, friends at work, Greg Jein who I’d worked with for 2 week Dug Trumble who I might have been doing a project with. Life is way to short to put off enjoying your self till you retire. You guys inspire me.
Posting here also help with that inevitable down period every project gets. Being able to look back at where you started, and it’s also a vast hive of knowledge that you guys have to call on.
So if there is anyone out there not posting there builds because they don’t feel worthy or good enough. Just do it. I started with corn flake box’s and I’m still learning today.

Passing on a bit of knowledge learned. My first 3D printer was a form 2 ( a very expensive printer) I’m not slagging off formlads we use them at work and the run 24-7 but for me only using it occasionally I always had issue and the resin is expensive to wast doing test print over and over a the beginning of this project I pulled the printer and wash station out of storage ( they had been left clean) and stored properly) the wash station had died electricly and I couldn’t get a good Print even after buy new resin, which turned out was a year old directly from formlabs. I was the 2 art department model makers on my last project both made mini fingers at home and said they use cheap 3D printers . So I bought a anycubic m3 and wash/cure station + resin for less that a formlab replacement wash station. Well having had it a few weeks I’m blown away with the I have added a magnetic build plate to make it easy to get prints of. There are other makes but I would say to anyone wanting to get into 3D printing now is the time. There resin is cheap enough to just play around and they even do water washable versions for those who don’t want to have IPA in the house.
