ORCA scratch build

wow, it's been a long time. I normally try to work in the winter and have the summer off so I can go in my tiny shed and not freeze to death
but with the strikes and now the streaming wars work has been all over the place. So we took the plunge and got a new kitten to make friends with Bueller, I'd forgotten kittens are like kids. lots of broken models. I had to lock the spinner away because he'd jump on the screen so much it need fixing oh and he broke the mirrors off. I found him in the cabin on the orca, thank god the only thing he has broken on that is one of the roach poles. easy fix. So I finished 3d modeling ORCA version 2 a while ago, it's good to take a break and come back with fresh eyes now and then. So I have made my mind up that there is going to be a 6th-scale ORCA but only after version 2 is done as a proof model.
I managed to go to the States a wile back and pick up my stove.View attachment 1782844View attachment 1782845View attachment 1782846I've made molds of the radio, so I can make a few to sell with sound cards in them
NOT THE SPINNER:eek::eek::eek: Rambunctious little devil:lol: Glad you're back at it!!

so as it's dark and cold and that time of year when I just don't want to do anything. I'm working on the 3D model, Adding all the little details so I can throw it in Unreal Emgine and learn how to use it . I'm just adding basic colours as the materials I use in Blender won't import in to UR.

does anyone know anything about this 2 ft being added to the Warlock. I know about the art department photo but there is no evidence of it actually happening. I still think it's a 38ft boat at this point I'm just going to execpt I could be wrong.

Stick with what you've researched. They may have made orca 2 larger, but that wasn't even a boat.
I found another orca 1, orca 2 difference. The pipe that goes from the lower cabin to the flying bridge. I'm just talking about in the lower cabin. When Brody falls backwards into the lower cabin into the water, the pipe goes from the deck floor up to the main cabin window shelf. Another scene when Hooper is grabbing all his equipment after the engine blows up, the pipe is shown exiting the cabinet next to the stairs, with no gap between the cabinet and stairs.
The orca 1, orca 2 conspiracy.
I have been trying in vain to find someone that knows what the Orca's full lower cabins looked like. I've asked Marty Millner, Eric Hollander, Carl Gottlieb, and JLT13th. All of them answered my message. None of them could answer my question. They either didn't remember or in Eric's case the orca was full of water on the Universal back lot and he couldn't see or go into the lower cabins. I'd love to ask Joe Alves or some guy named Spielberg, they would know.

My 3 come down the basement and check out the boat and the work I've done on her every night. Or they tell me, Ok that's enough for the night, It's bedtime. Especially the one on the top perch.
Yes, they all get along. This is an old pic. top perch and bottom perch are the girls, who are now 8 and 9. The boy is in the middle, he's 5.

If I'm eventually selling the 3D model it needs to be Textured, something I have no experience in doing.
So I've decided to model the Orca one more time. I've taken a break and have a go at texture painting the props.
I'm not going for ultra-realistic more a hand-painted look. As it's all been modeled in Solidworks I'm keeping the
models as water-tight printable objects

So I've drawn/modeled the Orca a few times now, there are always a few things that have bugged me but this morning I've finally given in to the fact that the mast is 2.5" off center I've always moved the trap door over keeping the mast centered but the math never works

I found a better image of where the hull flares in.
I fully accept that I'm on an unendable unprovable mission to get this as close as I can. But I think that is part of the fun.

That was an unbelievable catch with the hatches and mast. I always thought the hatches were down the center line of the hull. Remember the whole back wall of the Warlock/Orca was moved and rebuilt. The first picture shows where the exhaust stack was on the Warlock and how much of the cabin they cut away to make Orca. (look at the ladder location on both back deck pics)
Be careful of the hull. the lift strap is in the way (had to be there eh? just where we need to see) follow the keel. First two pics of the hull is the pattern I used. Only problem is, the stern on that pattern doesn't flair in to center line enough. Hope this is helpful.
