Optimus Prime-Locomotive!

These are awesome. The design is from the IDW series "Hearts of Steel". It's been awhile since I read it, but it was a really neat alternate look at what the Transformers would be like in the steam era and hanging around with John Henry.

Awesome to see this again. The guy who did these helped me with the initial stages of the 3D Vader project. Really nice and skilled guy! :thumbsup

I have to be critical of this one.

Just considering the original toys: As the semi rig, Prime's original design was at least logical. He had the right number of wheels and the layout was close enough to realistic. This version does not impress me. While I'm sure the engineering is well done, the vehicle mode looks ridiculous. The sculptor should have worked from some photo references of real steam engines. Even the original Astrotrain toy was more convincing than this and that was a mass of compromises.

The ROBOT mode looks impressive, yes, but I need to see Transformers look good in both modes or the effect is lost.

Except the sculptor didn't design this, he just brought a comic book based idea to life. The comics are the IDW series "Hearts of Steel".

Certainly interesting, but it doesn't really resemble any kind of locomotive that I've ever seen... would have been neat to see the vehicle version look recognizable.
