"Open the pod bay doors, please, HAL."

Wow, one of my faves too! I love Robby the Robot!

EDIT: Oops! Sorry, wrong film.

I really hope they do a prequel!
....yeah...a whole planet of black slabs....fighting with other black slabs....reaching for the stars.....Shia Labuff as a pioneering astro-physicist...directed by Michael Bay......:lol:lol

Is this a winner or what!

I like 2001 a lot! Still have some original film frames somewhere too!

I once said that 2001 will be remade one day in which Bowman will have to fight a CGI construct of HAL with kung-fu, and then blow up the Monolith with lasers, because the aliens are actually evil and plan on taking over Earth.

Actually in the later books we find out they aren't all that nice really so it could be written to make sense. :lol

...and then that would make 2001: A Space Odyssey: The Odysseying the pinnacle of human achievement.

I have always wanted to ride in a Moon bus, ever since the first time I saw this film. I remember playing with and ultimately destroying my Dad's model back in the day. Loved that thing.

When looking up whether Paul was right on that point, I came across the factoid that the first singing computer was an IBM job in 1961 singing "Daisy Bell" and HAL's disconnection scene was a shout-out to that. So that was rad.

What I mean is:

Beetle, Beetle, here is some news for you,
This song dates back to eighteen ninety-two.
So if your sheet music's crappy,
Don't be the least unhappy,
For I'll be here
To bend your ear
If the "do" should become a "due"!

You are my hero. :thumbsup

Song sheet from 53 says "due" as in her answer is DUE like a rented dvd.

To be fair, I can see how some people might think this. Heck, it may even be factual but I've always preferred "do."

When I first heard Hamlet, there is a part of the monologue where he says how he wishes his "too solid flesh would melt, thaw and resolve itself into a dew." What I heard, given the context was "adieu" and it fits perfectly since he's contemplating suicide.

Funny thing, language.
