One Diary To Rule Them All! (Wrong franchise I know, but I'm from Middle Earth!)
Ever since Covid lock down started here in New Zealand back in 2020 the grail diary became an obsession of mine. I made my first diary during the lock down period and to be honest it wasn’t very good at all.
At the time it was hard to get the original images and complete information. I ended up using pictures that were close to the original that I could find and then added all the text using a computer font that represented handwriting. The cover was a piece of imitation leather that I found around the house. At the time I was happy with my creation but as time went by I realised that my diary was not what it should be. As I gathered more images of the actual diary and continued to research everything about it, I finally got to the point of being able to recreate a diary that was as close to the real thing as possible.
So here I present my latest diary. With a lot of help from people I have meet on these forums I have put together what I believe is one of the most accurate reproductions of the grail diary made.
This diary is a Hero diary with a twist. My goal was to create a diary that had all the pages seen in the film, One Diary To Rule Them All! We all know that several diaries were used in the film but from the viewers perspective it’s just the one diary and that is the diary I wanted to make.
It has the same form and order as a Hero diary but then mixes it up from about the 8th signature onwards to show spreads that appear in B props as well. It still has the repeating pages but to be honest no page is the same as there are differences like colour and weathering that really make each and every page unique.
I spent a lot of time on the inserts to get them as accurate as possible, a lot of them I have already shared on here. What really makes the dairy unique is the way it was weathered making each page different. It took a lot of time experimenting with techniques and practicing to be able to match what was done on the original diaries.
