Ok TCM fans, which is it?

In my research to find the saw used in the 1974 TCM, I have found conflicting answers. Some say it is the Poulan 306a and some say it is the 245a. Both look very similar to one another with the only differences being that the fuel tank and handle are taller on the 245a.

I was able to track down a beat up 306a and it is being shipped as we speak. Surfing some of the Poulan/Saw forums, I was able to determine that the 306a could be tweaked with the 245a parts if push comes to shove.

So does anyone have a definitive answer on the model used?

Great score! The model used in 74' was the 245a. There is not much difference between the two, so you can't go wrong with the 306 (which is what i have as well).

Main difference being the top covers, 245 is sloped on the rear cover and the front cover is larger in height, the edges are also more rounded off. The cover on the 306 are flat and the edges are a lot harder. The muffler is the other difference betwen the two. The saw has 4 horizontal muffler fins on the 245a used in the 74' film, the 306 has a completley different muffler.

Great info and pics! I did find out that it was a 245a, but of course only after I bought the 306a. But it's good I found this one, apparently both saws are incredibly hard to find.

Got to meet the leatherfaces. These guys are seriously down to earth and VERY cool. Mihailoff even offered to make an appearance at my fiances Halloween store. Anyway, on with the pics.

I'm sure they get it all the time. Their tables weren't exactly busy, mainly because of the generation gap....just like the Killer Klowns table. They really were awesome to talk to though.
