Ok, I think reallly screwed up this time...I watched Firefly. Help?

Ok...thinking about Mal's coat...'cause I'm a geek. How's the Abbyshot version? That's the one I could maybe swing. Also...what about the dark stain on the upper left sleeve? Gunshot repair, or removed Browncoat patch?

John

Gunshot repair!

The Abbyshot is pretty ok. The current version seems a lot better than the one they used to do. (I sent them a lot of photos and info on the Logan coat.)

The thing about them not making more episodes:

They had a story to tell, and they told it pretty well. No story goes on forever.
Also, since the run was pretty limited and things wind up (more or less) intact, you can imagine that they will go on having adventures. They didn't have the crew all "move on" or "go their own way" - they ended it how it should have ended... tomorrow's another day.
Wow, that's really putting a "bright side" spin on the show's cancellation.

Quite honestly, I'm surprised Firefly even got made. Joss Whedon has stated numerous times that the execs at Fox never understood the show; the facts that Fox continuously moved the show to different time slots and/or pre-empted episodes, ran several episodes out of order (including the pilot episode, which aired last), and canceled the show with three completed episodes unaired seem to support this.

As for "no story goes on forever", while this is true, in an era when most network shows ran 24 episodes per season, Firefly ran a mere 14. And Whedon allegedly had seven full seasons planned out. Considering the final scenes of the last episode had a "final episode" feel to them, I think Whedon knew the show would end prematurely and wrote those scenes accordingly.

BTW Does anyone else think Jewel looked cuter as Kaylee, with a little extra meat on her bones?
Oh, hell yes!!!

Gotta raise my thumb to that too. I hate the super-thin Hollywood/Fashion Model look. Saw a blurb a few weeks ago that Christina Hendricks was going to "diet" and thought "Nooooooo!".
+1, multiplied to infinity. It's bad enough that most women have been convinced they have to look like a concentration camp victim in order to be considered attractive, but most men (i.e., sheep) have been brainwashed into this school of thought as well. I'll take a soft, curvaceous, voluptuous woman over a flesh-wrapped skeleton any day of the week!!!

I bought the DVD series to take on a European trip a few years ago. I finished it in two days. When I got back home I went to Best Buy to get season 2. I asked an employee and she said she would check the computer. A few minutes later another employee was walking slowly towards me. He had that look like a surgeon coming out of the O.R. after the patient had died. What a kick in the huevos.

So as Firefly keeps getting discovered by more and more people, is there in fact any hope that there might in the future be something in the way of a filmed continuation? Film, miniseries, webisodes...series? I know that the film was a bit of a dud in monitary terms, but has Joss compleatly lost intrest/hope?

John

p.s. By the way the blog: Fashionably Geek just yesterday posted a story on Jayne's hat and it's geek significance called "The Jayne Hat Phenomenon" that's worth a read. The Jayne Hat Phenomenon

Unfortunately, I really do think it's over. I hope I'm wrong though.

Y'know, as cunning as that hat is, I just don't think I could pull it off. It would clash too badly with my scarf. :)

Well, I don't think I could wear them togeather...

Thanks! Nope...but close. The picture doesn't do it justice. The colors are reallllly close to being dead on. But it's closer to a series 13 in size and though they were close, I've removed the patches.

The DVD set is about $20 at Walmart these days. I was lucky enough to get mine for like $15 at target years ago. A firely costume is one of my "on the shelf" ideas for the future. :)

Just remember: You can't stop the signal.

Glad to see you joined our special little section of the 'verse. Took me a while to finally get into it too-- my best friend had bugged me to watch since the show was on the air. I finally gave it a chance in 2008 and attribute the show for my second revival in nerdy interests. As a result of my newfound fandom, I got into going to conventions and eventually into costume/props. So I wouldn't be here today were it not for Firefly!

I don't think someone else has mentioned it yet, but I post on this forum which seems to be like the official unofficial fan message board: FIREFLYFANS.NET

Meeting the cast as sci-fi cons is definitely an experience one should have. I can only attest for personal experience with Dragon*Con, but through that event, I've been able to meet Nathan, Alan, Summer, Jewel, Morena, Ron, and Sean (only Gina and Adam are missing now). For a cult little show, let me tell you the popularity it has among geek crowds is INSANE! The lines for their panels are usually the most popular ones, often wrapping around the building. And there's good reason too because the talks are always full of laughs and fun. In addition, I see many Jayne hats as there are Trekkies or Stormtroopers.

Oh, and yes, the ladies are all stunning in person :love Here's a pic from last year with Jewel, and my gf dressing as Kaylee:

Oh, I love seeing threads like this. I LOVE THE SHOW. I LOVE THE PROPS. i LOVE THE COSTUMES, i LOVE THE CAST, AND i LOVE THAT UGLY LITTLE SHIP. :)
