Ok, I think reallly screwed up this time...I watched Firefly. Help?

There is no getting over the loss. Firefly is the greatest thing ever. Not the greatest SHOW, the greatest THING ever.

Although, I will echo what some have said that maybe it's better that they didn't have time to ruin it...would Janis Joplin have ended up doing Disney soundtracks in 20 years? The world will never have to know. This way, at least, we're left with a small dose of perfection.

You ever see the "You keep flying, we'll keep watching" campaign/ad? Breaks the heart.

I can attest to Jewel being an absolute sweetheart and drop dead gorgeous in real life. I kid you not, the camera does NOT do the woman justice! :love

Wow. Since she's alerady about the cutest woman I've ever seen in my life, that's a pretty tall order.

I saw Jewel, Morena and Summer at DC last year. And yes, they are all beautiful.

Don't forget, they also have several comics out... they're pretty decent and will give you a little Firefly fix.

And keep your fingers crossed that "Avengers" is a huge hit. Maybe that will give Joss the pull to get the crew back together!

Honestly... better to have quality over quantity. I'm thankful for what we got. Sure, I'd LOVE more, but it's like a good cake... you should be left wanting more, instead of feeling sick from eating too much good stuff. As it is now... it will never be ruined.

I still watch them occasionally to get a touch of that magic back... and they still deliver.

And just bought the Serenity Mal bust that I'm gonna mod the hell out of and giving him a pair of legs... gonna be sweet to get it.

Yeah, I got a couple of the comics this week and have read "Those Left Behind" and "The Shepherd's Tale". Both were fun to read and added some interesting back story, even if Zach's time line was a bit off here and there in "The Shepherd's Tale".

As for Joss, while I agree, and hope for many reasons that "Avengers" will be a hit, does it seem that is Joss "over it" or perhaps just feels like that ship has sailed? I've not seen or heard anything about "Firefly" from Joss that would lead me to think that it's a cause he would take up again. But then I'm just a new Browncoat and I'm sure I'm not as knowlageable about Joss' efforts where "Firefly" is concerned as others here. Hell, I'm so new that my cunning hat still has new hat smell, my Blue Sun t-shirt hasn't even been washed yet, and my QMX Jayne cuff should be here...wait, UPS is at the door.:)

Joss always says that he would do more Firefly if someone was interested in funding it but "no one is breaking down his door". The big problem is that there are no "big seller" items coming out that points to the Verse being lucrative to invest in. The Blurays and Serenity Special edition DVDs were probably the last high point any studio will look at. I, sadly, think that if nothing happened as a result of those sales, then that may very well be it as far as filmed adventures go. Also, it's been five years now... that also decreases the likelihood. Joss has probably gotten about as many "no thanks" as he can handle and in the end you can't just relentlessly pursue something.

However, I CAN see one possibility and that is the current slump that (space) scifi is in. Seems like there are almost no movies or tv shows right now with a strong presence and those that are around have all been canceled. Kinda feels like we're back in the late 70s right now with tons of realistic and depressing films being released. Maybe Vin Diesel will succeed in bringing Riddick back, maybe Abrams' Trek will pull in some $ and maybe (yeah right) LFL will bring back live action Star Wars and maybe The Hobbit will make Fantasy popular again. Then some studio exec will say "Hey, what scifi properties are floating around with a fan base that we can make for not too much money?".... OR, Joss will bring some studio big bucks with another project and get the power to say "THIS is what I wanna do" and happen to meet up with Nathan F as he guest-directs an episode of Castle and they get to talkin'.....

Firefly ; Love it or...meh, don't care.
I'm obviously in the love it category.

...well, it's been quite a passion since I saw the movie on DVD in January 2006.

I would note that over time I like the movie less and less,
and the TV series more and more.

Always hoping another big screen rendition can be made. Of course to be satisfying it would have to be prequel since two of the cast were killed off in Serenity. I don't think another sequel sans Wash and Book would be right.

:)

It would certainly be weird without those two... but weird can be a good thing... if you know how to work with the grief and loss the others must be feeling in their own individual ways.

I'm with you on your feelings about the movie. For me, it was meh...but the series....pure joy.

Yeah, the more I've watched of the movie, the more it feels like a fun thrill ride spoiled by trying to cram too much stuff into too little time. Plus the whole shish-ka-wash thing still rankles me and never worked in terms of what Whedon wanted it to do (I never once believed he'd "wild bunch" the crew), and it only served to take me farther out of my excitement as I sat there saying "Oh come ON who are you trying to kid? There's no WAY you'll kill all these people." Even after having seen Buffy from start to finish, and almost all of Angel (sans Season 5), I still don't believe he'd kill off everyone. Each time he has a chance to do that, he backs off it.

Comics, man. Comics are the way to continue them. There's just too much opportunity to screw things up with further films/TV episodes, and it's just not gonna get greenlit anyway. I think there must be some legal roadblock, though, because Whedon HAS continued both Buffy and Angel, and has written prequel stuff for Firefly/Serenity, but has yet to say "what happened after that?"

Yea I could of lived with Shepard dieing but Wash was just too much crammed in there. Though it did set up Zoe nicely for the end.

Only sort of, though. That's my big problem. In other Whedon shows, yeah, he's predictable (see a happy couple? Watch out for falling anvils...), but at least he uses the death to affect the characters around the deceased in meaningful, realistic ways. In a 2 hour movie, though, well, Zoe's sort of melancholy, but keeping it together. Almost the very picture of the kind of reaction Whedon DOESN'T like to do. "We'll miss our dear friend but now on with the show!" You never get to see the shockwaves of Wash's death. No hallucinations, no breakdown, no mourning, really, other than 15 seconds of a funeral and an "I'm hangin' in there, boss" discussion.

So, not only did the death not make me think "Wow! He'll kill ANYONE! He's CRAAAAAAZY!!", not only did it completely jar me out of my previously almost trancelike state as I watched the film, but it didn't even have any real impact beyond the (failed for me) shock-value.

I have my firefly boxset in pride of place of my DVD collection. I'll watch it every now and again and enjoy every minute of it. I'll more than likely build a prop in the end and wish that there was a second season.

I think comics can be a fantastic outlet if used correctly, but I can't see them coming anywhere near to capturing the magic of having the real cast play. The final scene with Mal and River is, in my humble but strong opinion, one of the best scenes in cinema history. I mean it. No comic continuation could pick up from there.

Yea I could of lived with Shepard...
I agree. The Shepard had a proper character arc. His fate was integral to Mal's arc and the story. It worked. Not so what happened to Wash... that was just sloppily done.

It's about Gorram Time. Welcome aboard. You'll love the movie, it has so many great moments, sad moments, and kick you in the nuts and pull out your heart moments. I saw it in the theater and...

The scene when the Reaver fleet pops out of the clouds and everything hits the fan, to me is one of the greatest, most Iconic movie moments ever.

Response to the spoiler

I particularly like the line a little later... referrirng to that scene

Agent: " a lot of innocent people are dieing out there."

Mal: "You have no idea how right you are."

Awesome

I loved it from the first episode, followed it as Fox tried to kill it, was seriously tempted to boycott all things Fox after they canceled it.

As for how this related back to props and models... I have several things but the one I like the most - the 36 inch Sereneity that was made in Fiberglass... it may not be rivet counter accurate, but its HUGE, and pretty close. I haven't built her yet because I keep toying wit the idea of doing it as a "cutaway" :D

Either way that thing is gonna be awesome! Where did you get something like that? It sounds so cool. Wish there were pics.

I thought (on subsequent viewings, I didn't catch it the first time,) that the scene on Miranda was interesting:

The camera is circling and spinning around, and Jayne (IIRC) claims that the people had "died for no reason." As soon as the words are out of his mouth, the camera stops on Wash...
