OK, granted, us Aliens guys got a Motion tracker from MR and there are some figures out there. WWWWWOOOOwwww, we have a plush face hugger on ebay.
So I get on an American Airlines flight and the in flight magazine has Kirk's chair, a phaser, communicator and tricorder for sale!!!!
So in one flight from Chicago, I could be an instant Star Trek prop guy.

I am sure that being a Star Trek Prop guy is more complicated, but it sure seems like you guys/gals have a head start.

Do I need to add that this is harmless banter between scifi geeks or it that understood?

I like to bask in the warm sunlight of being a Trek Prop guy. Come on in, the water is a perfect temp and no one ever fights. LOL

Man how quickly you Star Wars guys forget....... ;)

HOW many lightsabers did MR make?? :D

Jhusel

Let alone those .45 scaled things. WTF was that? Like Star Wars fans don't have enough "issues" about the size of their.....er.....lightsabers.

Hey now, don't get me started on those, "sitting on cloud 9" star wars prop guys that can shop at Target for their stuff.

Please don't flame me

Star Trek fans do have a lot to choose from. But, how many have scratchbuilt their own phaser? We ALIEN/ALIENS fans do a lot of scratchbuilding. And I can honestly say my M41-A Pulse Rifle is bigger than your dustbusters, cobras, dolphins and crickets!(this ST or a pet shop? LOL):love

I've got the best (and I suppose the worst) of both Worlds Joe! :cool ;)

But have you seen what an MR TOS phaser goes for on ebay these days?! :eek

It's probably my personal Holy Grail of ST props... I'll have to take out a second mortgage for it. :cry

However the cost of an MR phaser 2 is peanuts compared to an SD Studios PR (another Holy Grail). :wacko

You know how it is Joe; our "Aliens" film is cult status at best.

Actually, fans of ALIENS have it pretty good. You have readily available Pulse Rifles, grenades, armor, hemets, motion trackers (MR or homebuilt), flame units, smart guns, welders, etc. All kinds of cool props as well as the multitude of figures and statues (RAH ALIEN anyone?). We do lack in the plastic model kit area though. While the Trekies may have more stuff from more movies I think we have some pretty cool stuff as well!

Yes but the point that Joe is making is that the Trek guys have far and away more licensed items than the Aliens guys do.

99% of the Aliens/USCM stuff I own is either scratchbuilt myself, garage kit, or off ebay- essentially unlicensed.

Whereas 99% of the Trek stuff I own is licensed. AND I can go into a comic shop or even TRU for some decent TOS props/figures. The only USCM figure I ever saw mass produced (and affordable) was the McFarlane Cpl Hicks. The Hot Toys 12" figures go for mega bucks, and the 3 3/4" snap kits are nearly impossible to find.

Both genres have really cool stuff. It's about availability.

For instance my Dropship pilot is all screen accurate found items. But it was a daunting task finding a genuine RAF Mk 11 flightsuit in a size 3, M1969 flak jacket, and an SPH4 without paying through the nose. None of these would be found in a local surplus store. When Trek was in its heyday (early 90s) I could buy costumes/props/figures as much as I pleased. And I expect the new movie to bring about a Renaissance of Trek if nothing else (even if it does suck).

Yes, but we have had to wait a LONG time for them. Trust me, we spent many years scratch building stuff . . . with little reference material. YOU other guys have it made!!!! Boy if we had the reference material for Trek back in the day (like is available now) . . . the world would be different!! :lol

I did it, 1975. The only thing available then was the horrible model kit which was wrong and way too small.

We built bad, chunky wooden phasers in woodshop by attempting to use Franz josephs confusing working drawings. We didn't even TRY at communicators.

Still, they felt good in the hand.
