IWhen Greg J was tasked to do the phasers for one of the later Movies. He basically BOUGHT REsin castings at a CONVENTION....repainted them...and used them in the Next Film.

Is this true? Which weapons are we talking about?

He told me that directly as I was standing at his shop, when he was doing them.

He was talking about the Assault Phasers. He also was developing the sniper rifle from TUC at the time.

So what is this phaser? I was told it was a Wrath of Khan, but never really thought so.

That's the Shane Johnson "Phaser IV", made after the weapon seen in "Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise", a tech manual for the ST:I-VI era. The phaser matches the diagram in the book very closely, size- and shapewise; however, it's way too small compared to an accurate TWOK phaser.
Someone a long time ago said these were originally made by Wakal - he might want to chime in to corroborate this - there are some recasts out on the eBay sometimes, most of them of Italian origin...

Well that's pretty authoritative then. :D

I understand Jein added the brass-tag ID to the bottom, the Trek 5 props did not have that.

Here are scandalous crime-scene photos of Assault Phasers being thrown away...

Previous page... discussion about the Shane Johnson diagram showing the p1 being removab-

Oh, never mind. :lol

Ah.. OK, forgot about that discussion already - that's attention span for you. :lol
Never could find the SJ Tech Log here in Sweden - only the "Mr Scott's...".

The removable P1 stuff is mentioned but not illustrated in Scotty's Guide.

1st off I did not read this whole thread .........please forgive me if this was already covered

DOH, i just looked up

it must have been picked from the trash

:D :D :D

Looks similar to the casting of the Trek 5 dummy phaser that I've got.

However on mine note the open cutouts on the cowl (with a vestige of a ribbed structure visible beneath), and the cutaways on the outer cap of the emitter cone.

I agree.  The cycling lights are very cool...  Coyle did a killer job on this phaser.

Dude, that one looks super-nice. Did Mr. Coyle do this baby himself or was it a kit?

What kind of sick demented mind places such a butt-ugly button on the finest Sci-Fi weapon ever?

Richard, you will spend a few months in purgatory for that one.

That's hilarious.

Great thread, by the way. Makes me think that this forum ISN'T all about complaining and whining. Great pics from everyone.

I second the Arrrgggh....... a friend of mine that worked on TNG.. doing the handprops. from Proprfx.. he had told me horror stories about phasers and sets and stuff going to the dumpster.. but he alway said it was just trash.. it was always hard to act not as disspointed as I was.. and not freak out... trying to act like it wasnt that big of a deal.. was not easy..

It the Trash phaser pic from a magazine or linked on a website.. the quality dont look that great.. thanks.

The ST5 assalt phasers had the red tag on the clip and when ST6 came along the Excelsor's tags were added as well.

The shot of the phasers being dumpped was staged as a gag.

Is that a power clip laying on the ground by the trash can?.. Where is this pic from?.. magazine or what.. if this particular pic was staged. thats cool.. it doesnt change the fact.. that sets and props get discarded to the dumpster in alot of cases.. I have seen whole sets and props being destroyed with a hammer to go in the dumpster for the last Star Wars Films.. Magazine or Book dont remember where the pics were published..

Yeah that is a removable clip on the ground there in one of the pix.

I think the garbage can pix come out of a book or magazine... I don't recall tho. Here's a bit of text that goes with it.
