I'm still blown away at how cool it was to see a brand new predator movie..

some of the reviews i'm reading from the members here are just breaking it down to such a level of detail i can't understand why....

it was to me like the first pred film, as per P1 director John McTiernan said a "great popcorn action movie". it's not the godfather or casablanca.

no xenos no bad actors...just a kick ass action movie. enjoy it for it's intent. I know we're a hard bunch to please but damn 20 years later our favorite monster is back on the big screen......sit back and take the critial fan boy glasses off....and :D

AMEN BROTHA.
It's not supposed to be a work of art...it's an enjoyable, sit and watch movie. Have fun with it!

The P1 in this movie had real character. I really felt like there was a "person" in there. That's quite an accomplishment.

The cloaks sparking during the impacts of the fight between the Preds was great.

Favorite shot: the Pred decloaking outside the derelict ship.

I and a friend another lair member just got back from the flick. I don't have a long review. I loved the film and just wanted to say thank you Robert Rodriquez I'm a happy camper with Predators

Bingo! :D

Haha i guess i agree with the higher percent cause i gave it an 8 too.
As a whole, i really liked it, i enjoyed it very much! :D The pred camps reminded me of my room a bit... LOL

BUT minus two points cause i didnt like how the ending was just like what Dutch did in the first movie.... Also i didnt like that newer face design but whatever. The kept the older type designs too so i got over it LOL.

I thought the script was mediocre - this is what happens when you put talented people together to make a movie.

Adrien and Topher's performances are what sold me. Adrien transformed himself into a mercenary. It was awesome.

Some of the effects I felt were overdone (claymore explosion THAT big? really?)

But I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved Fishburn's character too.

And I disagree Andrew - this film WAS more than a popcorn flick. It said something about humanity - the same type of message the first two did. It was great. It wasn't just about the monsters - which was a HUGE relief to me.

Good job Predators team. :D You satisfied a difficult to satisfy fan.

I'll air a few of my complaints, but they are few...

Movie and fight sequences should've been a little longer, especially the P1 vs Mr Black.

Predators should've lasted longer.

A little more backstory on the 2 Predator tribes duking it out.

Noland exploding in a cloud of blood.

Otherwise, the movie was epic. Definitely better than both AVP's combined, and had me on the edge of my seet more than Predator 2. Definitely first day buyer on DVD release day (and downloader as soon as a DVD quality version shows up on the net).

The point was to try to make them mysterious and scary - all you needed was Fishburn's line about the two tribes to explain the hanging pred. Anything more would have been bordering AVPR territory for me.

They are monsters, let them be monsters - not characters or a way of life. I felt this film made them monsters again.

It sure did. Keep the Predators a mystery and DON'T explain a damn thing!

Noticed a couple more things the second time:

-totally forgot about the Pred skull they walk over in the Hunting Camp. That was cool foreshadowing

-I absolutely LOVED the intro music from P1 when they arrive in the helicopters being used when we see Classic Pred go ape-**** on the totem...bloody awesome

-Mr Blacks Bio is totally smooth with very little battle damage. In the movie its wet and glossy - looks like it was rained on. But then in the last bit we see him, the Bio looks flat with no shine to it at all. Little bit of inconsistency, but minor.

-when Mr Black gets his head chopped off, the head is totally CGI...it wasn't bad, but very noticeable

-when Classic is putting his Bio on and you see the chunk missing, THAT right there was a PERFECT opportunity to show his one exposed eye, but instead they leave it covered in the shadows.

Second time around I got to enjoy it a bit more...LOVE this movie despite the minor grievances. Overall this was a great flik and it brought us new Pred stuff...w00t!

loved the film but it just left alot of questions like i know the humans were all killers but what was the doc doing there?was he some kind of doctor death or summit? and the preds i thought were faaaaaaaaar to slow for my liking and hardly ever up a tree!!!! :D
still prefer the old preds but still a good film

Topher Grace's doctor was a serial killer, he keep his identity secretative due to the fact he had a scalple and the rest were all packed with guns :D

just waiting his time to add another to his list. IE his attempt on Bragga.

cant wait to see it again.

You must have been in the bathroom when the doctor explained that he was a serial killer down in the pit.

A few posts above (moviescolin): you said the script was mediocre, then praised the film. You sure you meant to say mediocre, or was there a transition I missed?

cheers for your DECENT answer lee, missed that bit, sound card had gone at cinema when watched it,least they gave us free tickets to see again

I like your slogan.... :D

So, so far with 97 people voting on our ranking system, the Hunters Lair rates the new "Predators" movie as:

7.72/10

with the majority [32] giving the movie a solid 8.

This has me intersted in what the rankings would be for: Predator, Predator 2, AVP, and AVPR....

I thought the movie was deffinetly worth watching. And as posted above better than both AVP movies combined. Sure there were some "cliche" moments like Brodey trying to use some of Dutches lines from P1 but, that was to be expected. I found the brody charchter and the Grace charchters great and there was deffinetly some good development there during the movie. And the new predators i thought they looked great!

Now I would of liked to see some of the story between the fewding tribes and maybe the P1 getting caught but, you cant have it all.

Now is it just me or was this ended so there was a HUGE possibllility of a sequel?

cayman shen: I did say the script was mediocre, and I did praise the film. Totally intential. The AVP script was good - solid, great writing... but with a group of less-skilled and talented filmmakers, they created a disaster.

The script for "PREDATORS" was mediocre at best, written by RR as a quick writing assignment including off-the-wall ideas that were thrown in on the basis of "Why the hell not?"

Grab oscar-winning actors and give them the roles and this is what happens - they turn a "ah, whatever, ok" script into "holy ****."

This is what I've been saying since 2003; give the characters to oscar winners and great actors and you'll get a good movie.

And as for Nimrod's directing - it was very good over all, save for the odd "chills down your spine it's so bad" shot here or there.

Ahhh!!!! Stop talking about the tribes fighting thing!!!!

We already got two Predator-turned-into-character movies (AVP,AVPR) that are totally based on the Pred's story, and guess what? They turned out like ****!

It's about humanity and how you cope with being the most violent and ruthless thing on Earth - so much so that a ******* ALIEN HUNTER picked YOU to hunt. Imagine the dispair? It just so happens that this alien hunter is cool as ****... But let's leave it at that. No explaining ANYTHING.

What was better? Looking at the predators in P1 and P2, the different samurai/chinese warrior/african/indian themes, trophys, weapons and thinking "dude. how the hell? i wonder how he got that..." or listening to Raul explain the predator's role on earth in AVP?

I didnt want alot of the tribal stuff just a little more than what was given. Maybe a small shot of the Predator hunt at the beggining although, I really liked how this one opened waking up in freefall. I know the movie is about humanity and the picking of the most dangerous im just saying a little more development on the other end could not of hurt although it would of deviated from the predator theme and I agree headed towards AVP territory.

One more thing to add.

The planet everyone is dropped on is a game preserve for all predators to hunt the deadliest and most dangerous species they find in the galaxy. Shouldnt there of been a xenomorph dropped in at some point? Not saying I would of liked to see one in the movie but a predator game preserve without xenomorphs doesnt seem right. As I said I would not of wanted it to have turned into a AVP type movie as they all sucked but they should of at least had an alien skull showing the species had been there at some point.
