Limited Run Oblivion Rifle Shrouds for airsoft LAST CALL

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

Hey Joe. question please. are you sticking to your guns on three to five sets. no pun intended lol . I seriously would like to get in on this. but I'm deep in the crap at the moment.

It kinda depends on how much time I have and how long each takes to print.

Well, I can't tell you what to do there besides having a talk with WS himself and see what he thinks. (I know he has lots of other stuff on his plate atm.) If you've promised to get a set from him and if he's relying on that, I think you should honor that unless he's OK with you switching.

You are absolutely right so I have fired off a pm to WS to see if he still thinks his run will happen. I will come back to you when I hear back from him. Cheers John

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

OK, I'm ready to start collecting orders and making kits. Printer setups are done and plastic has been ordered!

Interested parties have been contacted via PM. If all decide to get a set, the current run will be full. (Any open or extra slots that aren't filled will be notified in the next few days.)

Updates will be posted here, in this thread.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

Cheers Joe, deposit sent as requested (would have sent full payment but hoping exchange rate might improve a little in the meantime :unsure). Thanks for doing this run. All the best John

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

I'd be all over this if I didn't already have a Wondersquid kit. The cool thing about these being on the airsoft Masada is that the Masada, although electric, has a cool firing feel and sound, even when dry-fired. Makes the prop so much fun to hold and of course, pull the trigger! Lol. So keep in mind (during your build) to make it easy to remove the front shroud so you can plug in and unplug the battery. Airsoft batteries apparently don't like being left plugged in. Just my 2 cents. All the best with this run guys.

It's actually set up so that you can make the front shroud come off with just two screws (or even just slide it off the rail, though that would make it more loose).

I would have expected nothing less from you. Another well thought out and designed kit. Legend!

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

Just one thought, would it be possible to make the mag an actual functioning airsoft mag (internals could be harvested from an normal airsoft mag). Reason is you cant buy a 10 round airsoft mag (like the one used).

I thought about that a while back and I think the best thing to do would be to take apart and cut down an existing magazine. (I actually counted on people doing that which is why I only made a simple, solid dummy mag for the kit.) Making a functional magazine from scratch is possible, but the precision and R&D required would mount up to more work than the entire rest of the rifle I think, even if internals from an existing one were used. I'm not familiar enough with the internals of airsoft mags to reliable gauge what it would add to the cost and such as well. (I made a removable magazine for my V2.0 Firefly Vera, and it took a bit of effort to just get it to attach properly... and it isn't even a functional magazine. )

I second that. I looked into this as well, taking apart the smallest airsoft mag available and looking at cutting it down, etc. It sounds simple, but would be a heck of a job to have it remain functional. Photobucket is having issues at the moment, but here's a link to page 5 of my build where I talk about the 2 mag options - functioning airsoft and solid resin...

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

I cut down a Matrix airsoft mag for my all metal E11 blaster replica here:

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=203694&page=7

and it worked just fine holding about 25 BBs. Maybe the internals were simpler on that but I have two 20rd PTS PMAGs on the way and I intend to experiment with these to make a correct size functional mag. I will post some photos once they arrive and I have had a look at them.

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

cool, I will try cutting down a 20 round (might be able to use ridge as slide fixing - see pic) and failing that will try 3d printing something, but like Joe says tolerances will likely be a problem.

Didnt mean to derail thread - thanks for ideas/discussion

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

Hey everyone!

Update time. Despite barely having been outside the door for over a week due to a bad cold (or maybe actually because of it, haha) I am currently way ahead of schedule and am about to ship out the first two kits.

Some more good news: Once I started printing, I concluded that I wasn't happy at all with going 200 micron on the larger parts so I've opted to print ALL kit parts at 100 microns and use a larger nozzle for the large low-detail ones so as not to compromise the strength of the pieces. Sharp corners will be just a tad softer due to the larger nozzle BUT it also means the walls are able to be done in ONE pass instead of two, making them much stronger. I've also included some inner connector-spacers that you can use to strengthen the areas where the front and center shrouds are split. Note: I strongly recommend using solvent-based ACRYLIC CEMENT (plexiglass glue) to weld-bond raw plastic pieces. (I've also heard you can use chloroform, but haven't tried it myself.)

Since I'm making good progress and only have two more kits to print (actually less, since I've started on #3) I can take on more orders if anyone wants one.

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

Almost done with current orders on these, so if you want one, now is a good time to order because I've gotten these done faster than expected.

Re: Oblivion Rifle Shrouds

All paid-for kits are printed and the final two are being packed for shipping.

I have another one in the making as I write this and it will soon be ready to send as well...

Hi Joe,

Hope you don't mind but here are a couple of photos of my kit test fitted to my Masada and I think its looking real good thanks :thumbsup I have cut down the 20 round pmag and if it is cut just on the molding line just below where Nostromo20 marked his red lines above, with a very minor change to the bottom plate, it just slides right back on :). I am going to make it functional by inserting some 8mm copper heating pipe in a curve which will house the spring and BBs. More to follow if that is OK. Thanks again John.

Absolutely not! Looking good so far.

Note: for cleaning kits, I strongly recommend a Games Workshop moldline tool. They are FANTASTIC for cleaning both printed and resin kits. (I've probably got five of them laying around, haha.)

All kits (five so far) are now shipped. I can still do a couple more with the plastic stock I bought for them.

Since Wondersquid is resuming his wonderful full resin kit I will be ending this run and archiving the files until some time in the future. However, I AM willing to make another set for someone that really wants a printed kit IF I am notified ASAP.

Thanks to everyone who supported this run!
